Scene 1: Noon 12: 30

Saw huge rush in front of KFC. So Parked the car... Realized that it is opened. Somewhat managed to get inside the shop. Clicked some snaps. Then went back to office.

Scene 2: 6 pm evening

Friend called with his treat offer in KFC. Veruthe enthina kalayunne? Gone there. Had a meal. Want back for a city drive.

Scene 3: 8 pm night

Another friend called and enquired that whether KFC opened or not? I said yes. The reply was " be in front of KFC. I will be there within 5 minutes". So had another meal but on share basis...

Conclusion: Anyways we waited for minimum 30 min to place the order. But the servicing and food is really good...

Summary OK aayille???

Hi All,

If you are on your way to Kazhakuttom and feel hungry, a small eatery has opened up at Kariavattom - not in the scale of KFC, but food seems to be tasty (as per current status - i had dropped in on Saturday). Seems to be almost full during work days and Saturdays - frequented by Techies from Technopark and students from Kerala University. Serves North Indian and Chinese largely with South Indian also available. Space is a constraint though and service is slighty slow at peak times - but not bad and worth a try out.

After the huge success of KFC, M.G. Road, and the upcoming KFC, Kazhakuttom it is decided to start the third outlet in Trivandrum which would expected at Pattom. I guess it would be at Nikunjam Saras or Malankara avenue... Anyone knows the exact building, where KFC is coming up?

The two-week long pasta festival going on at the Classic Cafe, Hotel Classic Avenue, features a wide variety of scrumptious pastas ranging from the exquisite Rigatoni Piccante Calabrese (boiled rigatoni with sauce Piccante, olive oil, garlic, tomato and parsley) to the classic Lasagna Verdi alla Cacciatore made of chicken cubes in tomato concasse layered with green pasta.

Sagara Restaurant: Sea food at its Best !

The interior of Sagara Restaurant in T N Samrudhi Chambers at Vazhuthacaud is modest, but not staid. Van Gogh and Claude Monet reproductions adorn the walls painted in sky blue, indigo and white reminiscing the lines ‘the sea is our mother, the cloud is our brother, the waves are our comrades all’ penned by Sarojini Naidu. The aroma of seafood being prepared in the huge vessels fills the air. At barely 12 in the noon the restaurant turns a busy place and will remain so till it downs shutters at 10.30 in the night. Chandrakumar C K, alias Kunjumon, the owner of the restaurant, is busy looking after the preparations inside the kitchen, managing the customers and attending the phone calls placing orders alike.

True to its name, the restaurant has been synonymous to seafood for the past 14 years. Prawns, crab, squid, clam (kakka) and oyster (chippi) are available here in numerous varieties as ‘perattu’, ‘thoran’, fry and curry. They fetch the fish from near and far-off places. The staple dish here is the yummy ‘fish egg thoran’.

Kunjumon says that they get ‘fish egg’ weighing between one to three kilograms from big sized fish. Tasting the ‘fish egg thoran’, we could vouch that they have not added any artificial flavouring ingredients to stimulate the taste buds.

“We are so keen on adding only natural ingredients to the dishes. Instead of vinegar, we use lemon juice for preparation,” says Kunjumon.

Sagara also serves fried-rice made with fish varieties, prawn, crab meat and oyster. Soups too are on offer and crab, chicken and prawn soups are the most sought after. Besides, Sagara’s fish pickles are also on high demand. “Fish pickles are prepared only on order. A majority of the customers are either students studying in the other states or people who lives abroad. As we do not add preservatives, they must be consumed within a few days,” Kunjumon explains.

The place will not burn a hole in your pocket as a platter of meals with fish curry is available for just Rs 50. ‘Sagara’ has two branches at Vazhuthacaud itself, the one which is only a stone’s throw away from the restaurant in the Samrudhi Chambers was established first. The former one has eight employees and the latter has six. More than 40 varieties of dishes are prepared everyday. So as to maintain a variety, each day, they try different menus.

The restaurant which has a loyal clientele for years also serves chicken and beef preparations. The restaurant functions on all days.

KFC or Similar chain (may be Mc Donalds) can start three more outlets in Trivandrum,....in New KSRTC Bus Terminal and Trivandrum International Airport (one each in Domestic & International terminals) or some area near Airport.

Time to head to Residency Tower

The monsoon wind has succeeded in lulling the city asleep and if you are also feeling lazy this evening and despise the thought of running your fingers under cold tap water, chopping and sauteing a dish and tidying the kitchen platform that resembles a war field then maybe it is time to head to Residency Tower to indulge in a satisfying buffet that wouldn’t burn a hole in your pocket.

The beam of light highlights the black soup pots with wooden ladles next to them. Open the lid of the ‘oriental pepper broth soup’ and the sour and spicy flavours of vinegar and pepper comes gushing past. If the spice burns the tip of your tongue you may want to look above at the soothing blue clouds painted on ceiling before tripping to the salad bar that has every colour you can think of.

From ‘western grilled chicken salad’ to ‘Russian salad’ and ‘seafood symphony’ you have it all but if you happen to glance upon a pale yellow goeey salad called the ‘banana creole’ then mount heapfuls onto your ceramic dish as it is a rare combination of creamy flavours.

Siju Tilak, the General Manager, Residency Tower, has gained 5 kgs in the last one year and he owes it to his favourite Residency dish, the ‘mutton roganjosh’. There were more main course options than you can count using your fingers. You could plate up mutton roganjosh with the ‘achari paneer pulao’ and ‘dal makhani’.

“Apart from chicken, fish and mutton dishes, every day we either have a duck or pork specialty,” he says pointing at the ‘pork ullarthiyadhu’. Chunks of cottage cheese simmered and cooked in an Indian onion gravy, the ‘paneer shimla mirch kurcha’, paired with stuffed kulcha with an overpowering dash of cumin is Chef Vinoj John’s special treat for the vegetarians.

The chilly garlic fried rice sprinkled with circles of spring onions and springs of herbs can be clubbed with rosemary grilled chicken or cauliflower pepper salt. If you have a liking for Italian cuisine, you can look out for the pasta marinara too.

The city lights are blurry through the glass walls, the rain hardly visible and the music soothing. A word of caution for all those with sweet tooth, make sure to reserve half your appetite exclusively for the dessert section. With almost nine sweets and ice creams you might find it hard to direct your spoon to just two or three. Do not miss the ‘chocolate decanire’, the dates pie, the ‘kiwi nougat gateaux’ and if you spot the ‘black forest trifle’ then you may want to skip everything else and focus on this dessert that boasts of banana chunks, chocolate pastry bits and juicy cherries masked in vanilla sauce.

At Rs.475, the buffet at Orion, Residency Tower, is rewarding to your taste buds after a hectic day.

Seems to be almost full during work days and Saturdays - frequented by Techies from Technopark and students from Kerala University. Serves North Indian and Chinese largely with South Indian also available. Space is a constraint though and service is slighty slow at peak times - but not bad and worth a try out. Thanks!!

The interior of Sagara Restaurant in T N Samrudhi Chambers at Vazhuthacaud is modest, but not staid. Van Gogh and Claude Monet reproductions adorn the walls painted in sky blue, indigo and white reminiscing the lines ‘the sea is our mother, the cloud is our brother, the waves are our comrades all’ penned by Sarojini Naidu. The aroma of seafood being prepared in the huge vessels fills the air. At barely 12 in the noon the restaurant turns a busy place and will remain so till it downs shutters at 10.30 in the night. Chandrakumar C K, alias Kunjumon, the owner of the restaurant, is busy looking after the preparations inside the kitchen, managing the customers and attending the phone calls placing orders alike. True to its name, the restaurant has been synonymous to seafood for the past 14 years. Prawns, crab, squid, clam (kakka) and oyster (chippi) are available here in numerous varieties as ‘perattu’, ‘thoran’, fry and curry. They fetch the fish from near and far-off places. The staple dish here is the yummy ‘fish egg thoran’. Kunjumon says that they get ‘fish egg’ weighing between one to three kilograms from big sized fish. Tasting the ‘fish egg thoran’, we could vouch that they have not added any artificial flavouring ingredients to stimulate the taste buds. “We are so keen on adding only natural ingredients to the dishes. Instead of vinegar, we use lemon juice for preparation,” says Kunjumon. Sagara also serves fried-rice made with fish varieties, prawn, crab meat and oyster. Soups too are on offer and crab, chicken and prawn soups are the most sought after. Besides, Sagara’s fish pickles are also on high demand. “Fish pickles are prepared only on order. A majority of the customers are either students studying in the other states or people who lives abroad. As we do not add preservatives, they must be consumed within a few days,” Kunjumon explains. The place will not burn a hole in your pocket as a platter of meals with fish curry is available for just Rs 50. ‘Sagara’ has two branches at Vazhuthacaud itself, the one which is only a stone’s throw away from the restaurant in the Samrudhi Chambers was established first. The former one has eight employees and the latter has six. More than 40 varieties of dishes are prepared everyday. So as to maintain a variety, each day, they try different menus. The beam of light highlights the black soup pots with wooden ladles next to them. Open the lid of the ‘oriental pepper broth soup’ and the sour and spicy flavours of vinegar and pepper comes gushing past. If the spice burns the tip of your tongue you may want to look above at the soothing blue clouds painted on ceiling before tripping to the salad bar that has every colour you can think of. From ‘western grilled chicken salad’ to ‘Russian salad’ and ‘seafood symphony’ you have it all but if you happen to glance upon a pale yellow goeey salad called the ‘banana creole’ then mount heapfuls onto your ceramic dish as it is a rare combination of creamy flavours. Siju Tilak, the General Manager, Residency Tower, has gained 5 kgs in the last one year and he owes it to his favourite Residency dish, the ‘mutton roganjosh’. There were more main course options than you can count using your fingers. You could plate up mutton roganjosh with the ‘achari paneer pulao’ and ‘dal makhani’. “Apart from chicken, fish and mutton dishes, every day we either have a duck or pork specialty,” he says pointing at the ‘pork ullarthiyadhu’. Chunks of cottage cheese simmered and cooked in an Indian onion gravy, the ‘paneer shimla mirch kurcha’, paired with stuffed kulcha with an overpowering dash of cumin is Chef Vinoj John’s special treat for the vegetarians. The chilly garlic fried rice sprinkled with circles of spring onions and springs of herbs can be clubbed with rosemary grilled chicken or cauliflower pepper salt. If you have a liking for Italian cuisine, you can look out for the pasta marinara too. The city lights are blurry through the glass walls, the rain hardly visible and the music soothing. A word of caution for all those with sweet tooth, make sure to reserve half your appetite exclusively for the dessert section. With almost nine sweets and ice creams you might find it hard to direct your spoon to just two or three. Do not miss the ‘chocolate decanire’, the dates pie, the ‘kiwi nougat gateaux’ and if you spot the ‘black forest trifle’ then you may want to skip everything else and focus on this dessert that boasts of banana chunks, chocolate pastry bits and juicy cherries masked in vanilla sauce. At Rs.475, the buffet at Orion, Residency Tower, is rewarding to your taste buds after a hectic day.
