278. Puerta Del Sol square (the very centre of Madrid, from there all distances are measured) where mass protests started in spring, but in July there weren't any protesting people. What's the situation with protests in Madrid now?

279. This place took my breath on-hold. I was very attracted both to the high brown building to the right, as well as Art Deco beautie The Capitol building and it's Schweppes advertisement which was accompanied by movie advertisements on the screen of Cinema Callao building. It all made me feel like in 20ies of 20th Century, there was such a sense of charm... I sat down on a bench and enjoyed this for a while.

280. Cinema Callao

281.

282. Remember, I took these photos without tripod - Madrid's streets were so full of light that usually it was enough for taking photos sharp enough but it wasn't easy to do with Capitol building which is dark as you see.

283. I think Gran Via is the most beautiful, the grandest street of Europe and perhaps even the world - in terms of ornate historical architecture. Really, where else in Europe you can find so many impressive buildings lined along each other which aren't usual 5-7 stories high but instead 9-12 stories high? It is something between European classical historical main streets and New York's early skyscraper avenues (although I haven't been to New York, that's only my impression). Buildings are tall enough to impress, and short enough to not to oppress - just the right balance!

284. Another Schweppes advetisement! Are Spanish people drinking only Schweppes?

285. Hotel Atlantico - another amazing beauty...

286.

The outskirts of the city are ugly in many areas, but they have changed in many senses: all the neighbourhoods have their tube station, their cultural center, often a mall too, their sports center, parks in ten minutes walk (there are many parks all around Madrid) and in general they used to be a littde depressing some years ago, but now they have a lot of life and are much more modern.

Your pictures are amazing , can we have more?

Did you visit areas like Serrano st (Salamanca neibourhood) or Castellana or the four towers?

Thanks again.

Thanks for info about Madrid's neighbourhoods, it's interesting. I'm sure Madrid's commieblock areas should be more modern and renovated than commieblock districts here. I just don't quite understand the choice of brown color when painting them. I think commieblocks should be painted in white, yellow, green, red, orange and all other cheerful colors, not brown, grey or black.

Answering to your questions - I visited several areas outside centre, and Salamanca was one of them - beautiful district, and I was sad that I didn't had time to explore it more than just few hours walk in my last day in this trip in Madrid. I visited also Quatro Torres, as well as Azca, but I didn't visited Castellana, it seems. What that district is special for?

Castellana is the street which communicates the city center and AZCA and CTBA towers, one of the main axes in the city.
