Garuda Still Unable to Fly Directly to Jeddah

TEMPO Interactive, Makassar: The Hajj Plus and Umrah organizers are disappointed they are unable to fly hajj pilgrims directly from the Hasanuddin Airport to Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. “Garuda is not ready to fly directly to Jeddah,” said Rismondani, the Garuda branch manager, yesterday.
...
The Boeing 747-400 can operate direct flights from Makassar to Saudi Arabia, but according to Rismondani, this is difficult because the airport in Makassar has yet to obtain an international certificate from the Federal Aviation Administration and a certification from the Transportation Ministry.

Patung dari Sultan Hasanuddin. The statue is too short in my opinion, he looks like a dwarf.

Merpati set to fly higher after receiving bridging loan
...

“In the meantime, we are not going to open new routes but we are optimizing routes that we already fly by adding more frequency, such as Yogyakarta-Makassar, from once a day to twice a day,” Merpati finance director Tonny Aulia Achmad told The Jakarta Post.

The Bandung-Surabaya route would also see flights double from once a week to twice a week because of higher demand in the market due to the healthier economy, he added.

Rise in revenue despite issues to address: Customs chief
...

“I came to Makassar to check on our office there. The airport was fascinating, but the customs facilities are far from sufficient. Now, we have added two x-ray machines to improve the customs performance,” said Agung, adding that his office was not informed prior to the plans to upgrade the airport to international level.

“Our office was not invited to participate in developing international airports such as Makassar and Lombok.
