Quote:
In a joint venture with Cellulant, Kenya Airways will now be the first airline in Africa to deliver a service called KQ Mobile which is a mobile based technology platform that will enable customers to conveniently access information on flight status, timetable, cargo services, ticketing and query their Msafiri Miles status.

The service will be accessed while roaming across the 56 Kenya Airways destinations and its short code is *737#.

Paul Ndichu Chief Business Officer at Cellulant commented that the partnership sought to ensure convenient delivery of information to KQ customers, staff and stakeholders.

The goal of the partnership is to leverage the mobile phone to provide various information services to KQ customers, staff and other stakeholders in order to improve communication, enable itinerary and disruption management, payments and, importantly, to provide passengers the opportunity to customize their travel experience with ease.

In that big expansion plan document there is also an explanation of the planned regional/African expansion as well. In it it says that Windhoek/Cape Town is scheduled for 2012/2013...any idea about announcement regarding this? Clearly Delhi is already ahead of planned.

Your question has been answered. No date specified yet, but I'm assuming it'll be in the Q3 or Q4 of this year when Cape Town services start.

Boeing 767 Press Release
http://www.kenya-airways.com/Home/Co...Release/?dis=y

Quote:
Today Kenya Airways will receive a B767 from International Leasing Financing Corporation from Miami. The aircraft becomes the 6th B767 to join KQ operations and has been designated 5Y-KYV.

A team comprised of KQ Engineers, Pilots and Cabin Crew have been in the MRO facility performing the check on the aircraft and its systems. Inspections commenced on Monday 30th April 2012.

Once here, the aircraft will be on ground to allow preparations for it to commence commercial service: Cabin emergency equipment will be standardized to the rest of the fleet. The aircraft is similar to existing KQ B767 with no additional training required for the pilots, crew and engineers.

After obtaining the necessary approvals from the KCAA, customs clearance from the KRA and a final thumbs-up from maintenance, ground ops and flight ops, the aircraft will then be ready for deployment on our Network.

The aircraft is configured in dual-class configuration of 24 business class, 211 Economy class seats. The aircraft also have a high degree of systems commonality with existing B767 in KQ fleet, allowing us to benefit from economies of scale in spares provisioning and grow our engineering capabilities.

KQ adds another Embraer E190 to its fleet
http://www.capitalfm.co.ke/business/...-to-its-fleet/

Quote:
Kenya Airways (KQ) has added another Embraer E190 to its rapidly growing fleet as it expands its destinations in Africa while increasing frequencies on existing routes.

This brings the number of Embraer aircraft operated by the national carrier to 10.

The latest acquisition is the last delivery of the three E190s acquired from Air Lease Corporation.

According to Kenya Airways Chief Executive Officer Titus Naikuni, increasing the number of Embraer aircraft in Kenya Airways will help the airline consolidate its presence on the continent.

The new aircraft that arrived in Kenya early this week has a capacity of 96 passengers.

Currently, KQ uses Embraer aircraft on domestic and short regional routes including Kisumu, Entebbe, Kigali, Bujumbura, Addis Ababa, Djibouti, Maputo, Gaborone, and Nampula.

The airline plans to open two new destinations to Kilimanjaro and Eldoret in July and to Beirut by the end of the year.

KQ seeks more time for talks on rights issue

http://www.nation.co.ke/business/new...z/-/index.html
Quote:

Kenya Airways has postponed announcing the outcome of its rights issue by one week
, as it seeks more time to negotiate with international investors to take up the unsubscribed shares.

Sources familiar with the transaction told the Nation that the airline was yet to conclude a deal with a major international investor by Monday, forcing it to amend the timetable to allow for more time to complete the deal.

The rights issue was under-subscribed and Kenya Airways has had to look for alternative investors to boost it, the source who requested anonymity because he was not authorised to speak to the media said.

The airline, however, refused to comment on who the investor was. According to the original information memorandum on the rights issue, the national carrier was supposed to release the results on Wednesday.

It also postponed the date of commencement of trading of the new shares on the NSE from June 14 to 21st of this year.

Electronic crediting of CDS Accounts with the new shares and the dispatch of the share certificates for the new shares or refunds will now be completed on June 14.

Kenyan Government now largest shareholder of Kenya Airways
http://www.nation.co.ke/business/new...i/-/index.html

Quote:
The government is now the single largest shareholder of Kenya Airways, following the rights issue that just attained its minimum subscription target.

KQ raised Sh14.8 billion ($174.6M USD) in the capital call, representing 70 per cent of the Sh20.6 billion ($242.8M USD) it needed after a number of its individual shareholders declined to take up their rights.

This could slow down its ambitious capital intensive expansion strategy.

The undersubscription saw the government receive all its subscription resulting in its shareholding reaching 29.80 per cent from 23 per cent.

But it is KLM, which was the largest single shareholder before the rights issue, that was forced to scale down its stake which would have seen it increase to 33 per cent.

Whereas KLM subscribed for its full entitlement of new shares, its application was scaled back,” reads a press statement published in the dailies on Friday.

KLM’s shareholding in KQ rises marginally to 26.73 per cent up from 26 per cent.

In a fully subscribed rights issue, the shareholding before and after the rights is supposed to remain the same.

It's....different. Not amazing neither too boring. Though so much white KQ should spice it up a bit. The Chinese on the tail seems a bit random, but I like the Safari Connection....They should paint the plane red/black/white (kenya's flag colors) so it resembles their other planes, or add in a Maasai shield alongside the Safari Connection.

It's not Kenya Airways plane, so it's not up to them to change it. I'm sure when Kenya Airways Cargo get their own freighters they will paint them in their own livery.

But first after this Martinair 747 we might see a China Southern freighter in the Safari Connection colors, as they have showed interest in participating in the Safari Connection joint venture. This is also in line with the long term strategy where KQ Cargo wants to use 2 747F before starting to operate their own 777F from 2014/2015.
