I think arbitron which is already in cochin , will surely come in calicut. they have already started an incubation in NITC. and then IBS and UST will be the usual attendees . Recently when NASSCOM held meeting in trivandrum , they pointed out that trivandrum itself has to grow in terms of connectivity, be it broadband or be it roads . angane nokkumbo calicutinte avasatha athilum moshamalle

I think those facilities are comparable in Calicut and Trivandrum..Trivandrum is no doubt an established IT hub, apart from that, in Calicut, I feel that infrastructure and all other things you mentioned is at par with TVM

Irshad , Dont u think TVM has wide roads , better accessibility through air and rail . Moreover , there is a huge chance for expansion in the place , whrere techno park is located , in terms of land . Calicut is becoming congested day by day .

Honestly NO for road standards and other related infrastructure, but I can agree on domestic air/rail connectivity is much better in terms of number of flights(domestic only) and train services..and about broadband all those ISPs operating at TVM are there in Calicut also offering the same services

Nope, when you talk about broadband connectivity we dont have Photon plus in Calicut, city roads are better in Tvm, Calicut do have good roads, but still there are areas for improvements. Also when you consider the room availability Tvm and Kochi are much ahead of Calicut, we need to have a lot of hotels to be built to bridge the gap. Talent pool, cosmopolitan environment etc are comparable, the only edge we have over Tvm in having malls and such stuff, thanks to the NRI money.

Sanju... I feel that there is no much difference in road quality and road transport network if you compare between Calicut and TVM. Regarding ISP you get the same quality of services in both the cities..like 3G etc...
Hotel rooms and all I accept the fact, being a city which attracts much tourist traffic and being an established IT hub and a capital city,TVM definitely have advantages over Calicut in areas where you specified...

My intention of the post was to show that Calicut is more than ready to accept small and medium sized IT companies ..

Having spent almost 7 years in technopark and in and around TVM and being a native of Calicut,I know the advantages of both the cities from a common mans perspective and rating two cities was never my intention...

You haven't seen roads in Trivandrum lately. Also they have low floor buses which is yet to come in Calicut.

If you can believe the newspapers, KSRTC lowfloor Volvos are on their way to Kattappuram. With non ac low floors who can say it wont be the same case as the buses complete 5 years of operation. Roads are really good in Trivandrum. They are indeed neat. What is possible in Trivandrum is doable in Calicut, provided there is funding.

Regarding ISP's all the DATA providers will have scalability process in place. As and when the data requirement arises, Commisioning a circuit/line is not an issue.
Hotel Rooms are really an issue. In short-term the concept of serviced apartments will grow root in Calicut. there are many real estate projects in full swing which can cater to Service apartment needs.
Regarding the AIR connectivity, its already accessible to TVM and KOCHI. The projects in Cyberpark could be in the initial days a spill over from Kochi or Trivandrum.
What will work against the Cyberpark is the delay in execution and denial of EXCLUSIVE marketing in Kerala IT stage.

I can see many a flats are coming up in that ramanattukara-calicut bypass. Lot of those can serve as service apartments, which will become one possible answer to the lodging problem mentioned . Though the roads are narrow , the proposed monorail for calicut will be a relief. it may take DECADES to come, but still.

We have another fair chance , since CEOS of both wipro ( TM kurian), and infosys (Shibu john ) are malayalees .If they show the same spirit , like Arbitron India CEO (shanmugham ), who inspired to start Aribitron Indias first branch in kochi itself among various other hot destination in India , it will be a big leap for us .

KOZHIKODE, NOV. 6:
JMR Infotech, formerly known as Trasset Services Group, and specialising in banking software services, is expanding its office network.

The company, which currently has offices in Kozhikode, Bangalore and Sharjah in West Asia, will open new offices in Mumbai and Africa in 2012, according to Mr Jayafar Moidu, Chief Executive Officer.

Along with branch expansion, the number of employees will also go up with the addition of more than 150 people to the existing workforce of 250. A major chunk of the new employees will be based in Kozhikode, where the product development and research and development activities of the company will be based.

Mr Moidu said the Indian IT industry was all set to gain from the ever-expanding African economy and JMR Infotech would be one of the early birds to set up office there.

JMR Infotech, a certified implementation and support partner of Oracle FSS, had recently diversified their portfolio to include ‘lead management and loan origination' software for banks. The system comes readily integrated with Oracle and IBM Cognos business intelligence tools and the Flexcube core banking system. However, it can work with any core banking system through generic interfaces as well as with any other standard business intelligence tools.

Mr Moidu said the new software was the first step in the company's move into developing solutions in the niche and complex areas of processing that are not covered or partially covered by other core banking systems. The product roadmap also included complete coverage of credit risk management and online fraud detection and the system would be in place in the very near future, he said.

Trasset was a Hungary based company specialised in banking software, however I dont think it can be considered as an MNC,I asked many of my friends in Hungary about this company while I was in Budapest in 2009. many of them (Hungarians working in IT field) heared about this company from me only !!! I think now this is acquired by JMR which again looks like a new entity....But any away it is a good news for Calicut
