Thanx
Actually I left Sudan through KIA only yesterday

Uploaded with ImageShack.us
and no I don't work at the airport but I am a frequent traveller
and here are some photos from a famous incident that occured at KIA about two years ago when an Egypt Air Airbus collided with a Saudi Arabian Airliner on the ground before departing.

Uploaded with ImageShack.us
where you can see the damage at the rear of the 747
Surprisingly the Egyptian Airliner left KIA immediately after the incident but the Saudi Arabian 747 stayed for 2 months on KIA until repairs were completed

Etihad celebrates five years of service to Sudan with fifth weekly flight

Etihad Airways, the national airline of the United Arab Emirates, has celebrated both its fifth anniversary of non-stop services between Abu Dhabi and Khartoum and the introduction of its fifth weekly flight on the route.

The airline commenced operations to the capital of Sudan in July 2006, and since then has carried more than 200,000 travellers and nearly 6.5 million tons of cargo on the route.

James Hogan, Etihad Airways’ Chief Executive Officer, said: “Etihad is experiencing a period of rapid expansion with the launch of many exciting new destinations and the arrival of new aircraft. Our services to Khartoum have exceeded our expectations over the past five years, and we are pleased to be able to build on this success with an additional flight. Khartoum is a special destination for us due to the established cultural and commercial ties between Sudan and the UAE.”

Etihad Crystal Cargo has been successfully operating freighter flights to Khartoum for more than six years. Currently cargo freighter operations between Abu Dhabi and Khartoum offer a payload of up to 46 tonnes on each flight, three times a week.

“Cargo services have been extremely successful, with the capacity being well utilized. We look forward to building on these high payloads and gaining new customers,” added Mr. Hogan.

Etihad currently operates a two cabin Airbus A320-200 aircraft between Abu Dhabi and Khartoum, configured to carry 136 passengers – 16 in Pearl business and 120 in Coral economy.

In addition to carrying passengers between Abu Dhabi and Khartoum, Etihad offers seamless connections to many popular onward GCC destinations and a choice of Asian destinations such as Beijing, Seoul, Tokyo, Bangkok, Kuala Lumpur and Manila, the Indian Subcontinent, Europe and Sydney in Australia.

The 19 staff members based in Etihad’s Khartoum office work in sales, finance and operations, offering a wide variety of services including reservations and ticketing, visas to UAE, hotels and holidays packages and a dedicated corporate team.

Mohamed ElNoman, Etihad’s Country Manager for Sudan, said: "Etihad has enjoyed consistently high load factors across all cabins since the launch of services between Khartoum and Abu Dhabi in 2006 and we are very proud of that success. The additional weekly flight will open new horizons for our commercial activities in the Sudan and will offer our customers more flexibility in their travel to Abu Dhabi and onto the airline’s worldwide network. As well, the recently announced operations to Chengdu and Shanghai in China will add extra value for our clients from Sudan.”

Sudan: Egypt builds new Khartoum Airport

Global Arab Network - Al-Nassr Construction and Contracting Company, one of the Egyptian public business sector companies will to carry out the project of building the new Khartoum Airport.

Head of the company Ahmed Fouad Abdul Aziz said that a meeting was held in Khartoum last week between the company's board members and representatives of the Sudanese government to consider all issues related to the building of the airport and other projects Sudan is to carry out this year.

This comes within the government's efforts to further economic cooperation with Sudan.

Unifying stances over Nile water file

Members of the Egyptian-Sudanese joint technical authority, currently in session in Khartoum, stressed that development projects on the Nile river course, including dams, should be established on the basis of what has been agreed upon by all Nile Basin countries.

They added that such projects must be useful to all countries, while avoid damaging the interests of any Nile Basin country.

The authority said that in case of a negative impact on Egypt and Sudan due to any of these projects, the two states have the right to take a stance to amend this project, supported by the technical and legal bases approved by international law.

Dr. Hesham Qandil, head of the Nile water sector and Egyptian chief delegate to the meeting, said that members of the authority stressed the importance of coordination between the two sides on the Nile file in order to unify the visions and agree on a strategy in the next phase.

Etihad appoints new country manager for Sudan

Posted on 2 February 2011 in People & Recruitment

Etihad Airways has appointed Mohamed El Noman as the airline's new Country Manager for Sudan.

El Noman has 14 years of commercial aviation experience in the region. Prior to joining Etihad, he worked at Emirates Airline where he held the position of Sales Manager. He was also the Sales Promotion Manager for the Gulf Air GSA in Sudan.

Peter Baumgartner, Etihad Airways’ Chief Commercial Officer, said: “The Sudanese market is of key importance to Etihad as traffic trade between the countries and beyond grows. Mohamed brings a strong commercial background to Etihad and I am confident that his significant experience with airlines in both the Middle East and Africa will contribute to Etihad’s further success in Sudan. “

Etihad launched services from Abu Dhabi to Khartoum in July 2006, initially operating three flights per week. Following increased demand on the route, Etihad expanded its services to four flights per week, from April 2007.

Interview with the Executive Director for New Khartoum Airport Implementation Unit

(smc)

The idea of establishing new airport is based on extension of residential areas close to current Khartoum International Airport the thing necessitates establishment of new airport in accordance with international standards accredited allover the world.

Work in new airport in south Omdurman has witnessed tangible development recently. Sudan Media Center has interviewed Director of executive unit of the project, General Abdul Karim Abdullah to shed more lights on progress of work.

Q: What is the importance of the project and what are its objectives?
A: The project is one of the most important projects implemented by government currently as it is carried out within the framework of rehabilitation infrastructure. I think its implementation is considered timely as it is supposed to replace Khartoum International Airport whose age is more than 65 years now. Current airport won’t accept expansion. The idea of establishing new airport refers back to 1978 according to the codes of National Aviation Board. In 2005, a unit for following up the project was established. The unit put forward a bid including maps in addition to designations of the project in 2006. 32 companies opted for implementing the project and 9 companies attained concession. Representatives from these companies visited the new location and held a conference. The project was endorsed by the cabinet with recommendation of reducing costs as far as possible however economical sanction imposed on Sudan by the U.S. in addition to financial crisis overwhelming the world, the project faced number of financial difficulties. The financial deficit contributed effectively in delaying implementation as scheduled despite although implementing companies are distinguished for their first-class technical qualifications. As soon as implementation of Meroe Dam was over, we communicated Arab funds that contributed to implementation of dam to finance the project through Ministry of Finance and they pledged to finance the project. We signed agreement with Islamic Development carrying out number of developmental projects in the 56 countries including Sudan affiliating to Organization of Islamic Congress. Friendly countries including Turkey and China accepted to finance the project, too. It is worth mentioning that the feasibility study of the project was prepared by renowned German company Dorcsh Group. The study approves economical as well as social feasibility of the project including issue of environment protection. Thank Almighty God that the project has overcome all difficulties including the financial deficit.
Q: Tell us about progress of work in the project and what are the financing parties?
A: As I have just mentioned, most of procedures related to financing have already been finished. Institutions and funds financing the project include number of Arabic funds, Exim Bank from Turkey, Import and Export Chinese Bank in addition to Islamic Bank for Development that has provided the project with $ 150 million allocated to build the airport terminal.
Q: How is the work progressing currently?
A: In the beginning number of preparatory tasks inaugurated by President Omar Al Bashir. The work is divided into two parts, major work and preparatory work. The preparatory work involves establishment of roads linking the airport with road network in Khartoum in addition to identifying the area of the airport in accordance with regulations of International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO). The space that the airport covers contains of 18-kilometers road established to facilitate delivery of services during period of implementation.
Q: Why is difficult to carry on the major part of the work?
A: Factually preparatory part has been implemented as scheduled as it has been financed by the Ministry of Finance however major part hasn’t launched yet due to delay of financing. Currently, we are ready to launch this part as financial difficulties have been overcome. The airport will be finished within 36 months.
Q: What is the overall cost of the project?
A: The overall cost is $ 2 billion and the work is divided into two stages. The first stage concentrates on transformation air traffic from current airport to the new one.
Q: Some people ascribe the delay to disagreements on compensations of landlord. Is it true?
A: We have begun the work in three pivots simultaneously. The first pivot concentrates in compensating people the airport is planned to be on their land. The overall area of the airport is 103 square meters surrounded by greenbelt. After negotiating with citizens owning lands and we reach to agreement guaranteeing their rights. I think our experience in compensating citizens is a unique one and we recorded it in a documentary book to benefit others. The airport area is expected to witness tangible development and we have prepared comprehensive plan in cooperation with executive bodies in Khartoum to boost development in airport area.
Q: Has Ministry of Finance fulfilled its obligations toward the project?
A: It is important to clear that the ministry isn’t obliged to implement the project however it has provided it with all sovereign guarantees as it is in need for significant funding. The ministry has allocated $ 47 million for the project and the money has been used to implement the work you can see now. The cooperation with the ministry has resulted in the funds mentioned recently. it is crucial to indicate that the ministry has signed agreement with Islamic Bank last February to provide the project with loan and the agreement has already been endorsed by the cabinet and it will be endorsed by presidential decree due to parliament vacation.
