I dunno why you're so pesimistic about this project since it is realistic. South Korea has 2 megatalls proposed, China has a megatall and 2 nearly megatalls under construction and another megatall proposed, even Jakarta has a proposed megatall so why should the US be unable to build a megatall?

The U.S. can build the building they want, but will not commit the stupidity of doing something that doesn't make economic sense.

Emerging Asian countries can build megatalls because they are experiencing a huge growth, which is something new for them. Part of the population was poor, is now getting into a lower middle-class status. Not everyone follows these rules, some just want a cheap world exhibitionism, such as the Middle East, but other places such as China, South Korea and Indonesia go through a stage where they could design great visions, and transforms them into reality.

This question has been answered so many times it's crazy.

This thread isn't about why can't the US build mega talls anyway, it's about this building.

Because the US isn't building them, private companies are.

South Korea isn't building its buildings neither yet their private companies still can build megatalls

It would be nice to see Chicago spire to be build in this place (old place also very nice), but this project will be never executed. WHAT A SHAME l think.
This proposal and this building looks so average.

This building will certainly never be built if no one ever believes it can. You have to be optimistic.

It's still a visionary project though, which means there is virtually no chance of it actually getting built, it's more or less like the mile high skyneedle.

It would be awesome yes, but the USA will never see a building taller than WTC or Sears in our lifetime. The fact that the new WTC is smaller than the old is a good indicator of that. Sad but true, reality blows sometimes.

It's not in the visionary stage, it's a proposal and in fact, the first stage is expected to start this year. Hopefully the city won't bum out at the megatall stage. It'll probably be scaled down a bit. But anything over 500m is still awesome.

I always knew there was hope for this project. Hopefully the city doesn't bum this out. Thanks for the updated. Been waiting for this kind of news.

You're right about the WTC but just because the WTC is being built without any vision only for strict profit doesn't mean that it must be like this in the entire US. Building extremely high is still a good way to attract tenants and I think this proposal has a very good chance of being built. After all, they already sent it for approval

Also, in my opinion comparing it to the mile high tower is a bad comparison because that one was at it's time impossible from an engineering point of view however this project is not only possible, but it isn't even mega expensive like Burj Khalifa or the Kingdom Tower (meant with US worker costs taken into consideration). As I said before, Asia has about a dozen of such projects so apparently they are possible and even to a certain degree profitable

ehm, im 100% that the new 1WTC is taller than the old north tower. by something like 14m (rough guess) so they are building taller....

I believe the new WTC has the same roof height than the old one

The roof height is lower, 1334 feet vs 1368, it's the parapet that goes up to 1368, the floors also do not reach quite as high as the old. Plus the building tapers and is much smaller at the top giving it a less dominating look.

That being said, the new 1WTC is still a very large tall building, but the US could have done better.

I suggest a temporary closure of this thread, since the ongoing discussion is off topic and blah blah blah.

We're talking about megatalls in the US, and this proposal is a megatall in the US so I don't see anything wrong about it
