I have a few questions about this building though:

I know that it'll be at the site of the post office, but where exactly is that in Chicago? (In relation to Willis, Trump, Aon and John?)

Also, is it 2000 to the roof or the antennas? The article on page 2 said 2000 to the roof, but that means that the antennas would surpass 2000, which could cause some problems with the FAA

Either way, I am very excited for this and hope it gets going. I remember someone else on this forum saying that "Chicago would be mad that 1WTC is ending their city's 40 year reign as city with the tallest building, and would build something else taller then 1WTC"... Looks like that guy was right ^.^
Its only about 2-3 blocks away from willis on the side away from the other supertalls. Right now Im not that impressed with the design but it just might be because its a drawing. I do hope it wont have any antenas, willis already took those. If indeed it is 2000ft to the roof we could have a building second only to the Burj

i think if this thing is ever going to be viable and have any chance of completion, its going to have to be less dependent on the massive amount of planned retail. that gigantic base should be cut back some.

It's a shame all these great buildings never get built due to lack of funds. If I were Bill Gates, I would build a 200 story 3000 foot tall building as microsoft headquarters/his private mansion on the top floors. That would be so epic.

well, its going to be a (very) long shot for this to be built, but i think it has a chance, albeit slim and with some modifications. that is, as long as the economy doesnt dip further than it already has again.

See below:

FAA rules allow an exception for a structure of any reasonable height built in an area away from flight paths and that can demonstrate a value to the public. Ornamental crowns don't meet that standard but broadcast antennas do.
Oh, interesting, now I see why those antennas in the Dakotas are so tall!

I'm feeling a whole lot of mixed emotions right now about this proposal. Don't get me wrong I really think Chicago needs a project like this. I can only think of all of the positive out comes a project of this scale would bring to the city. It would not only alter the Chicago skyline, It will create retail space, it would redevelop the south loop, and most importantly bring hundreds of jobs to the City of Chicago. I do understand that the images displayed so far are only a mere render and illustration of the project. My only issues it the Antennas' of the proposed tower. If you look both towers resemble the top of the Willis Tower... I'd hate to see towers with identical roof designs.

There is also that part of me that is guarded and weary after the demise of the Chicago Spire and so many "super tall" cancellations in the city. I have to be standing next to the building looking up at it in order to believe it. Don't get your hopes up folks.

Seattle could use a monster of that magnitude

Unfirtunately Microsoft insists on their Redmond campus instead of being downtown like Starbucks, Amazon.com, WaMu and the like. If only...

I would love to see something monstrous like this get built in Chicago. I'm tired of all the insanely tall buildings being in Asia. I'd love to see one in the US!

personally i realy like the idea of having an antenna that resembles willis and john hancocks design. it would really give it a them just like new york art deco theme.

Nice but just another vision. No chance, especially in current economical conditions.

You Chicagoans don't seem to be very excited about this. Of course, based on all the 'tallest' proposals that have never come to fruition, Chicago may be the most snake-bitten of cities.

Looks awesome. A design doesn't have to be complicated to appeal. Just look at Sears/Hancock

I really hope this proposal gains traction.

Here is a bit of a critical approach to the plan.

The Willis Tower's antennae will fry occupants with its radiation, LMAO. Get serious.
