Calm down. He was just making a point. He's speaking figuratively, in case you haven't already figured that out. Perhaps he was referring to Nakheel Tower, you don't know. HIM being ridiculous? Quite a hypocritical thing to say...

Is it likely that the building these talks are about is the Chicago spire? Would they choose a design that would take advantage of the foundation work or would the completely restart everything?

If someone new owns the property, I don't think they own the design that was meant to be there. They might build a thin, cylinder-shaped building, but there's no point of having such a small design range for the sake of the hole..

Correct, I also don't think that it would have to be cylindrical, I think it could work for any type of building..

Considering the potential scope and cost of such a project they may not feel constrained with the site's current "configuration", so to speak. However, could they incorporate some of what is already there into the overall design, or would that be pointless?

That should be possible, maybe some additional piling would be needed, depending on the design.
I haven't seen any design, don't know when to expect that.
It seems that the only thing keeping this thread alive are senseless discussions about height.

...of the tower different that the thread title would suggest

Can we have Chicago Spire thread reopened? I think that makes most sense to discuss it there. And if the project resumes in different shape we can rename the thread and have continuous history of Chicago's Wishing Well in a single place.

As you can see, this isn't a rumor. The only question, is when we will hear about this proposal, and how serious it is. It may just be a coincidence, but Donald Trump said that he was "interested" in the spire site about a year ago.

It isn't an obsession with height for me. I want Chicago to have a new tallest, but besides that, I care the most about design, as long as it is tall enough to stand out in the skyline.
Trump is a great man. If it will be proven that he is intereted in the site, it will be quite serious. Man, I can't wait to hear more info about this

Who knows, maybe in a century Chicago will have a 4000 footer but right now it should aim for a 2000 footer asap

I don't think anyone on this site is actually allowed to like Trump.

On the subject of Mr. Trump, I wonder if he'll ever focus again on NYC and do a major project soon, it is his home town?... perhaps he will be inspired by the new spate of towers going up, and he'll come back and Trump them all, lol. Does he own any good sites?

At least it's not impossible over the next 100 years for chicago to get a 1000m+ tower.

I"m cautious when it comes to Chicago, if they say they are going to build something, I'd like to wait and see if it rises above ground level.

Chicago has had more than its fair share of 'new tallest' cancelled.

That city had the world's truly tallest building until about 2004, so it's pretty hard to beat. The timing killed the Spire, though.

Chicago's question mark is the economy and population loss.
