You know I wouldn't like the spire in the middle of the city rising somewhere close to the sears, but as it is in front of the city near the shoreline it's completely different story because in it's location it doesn't need to fit that much like the super model on the catwalk instead of between the crowds below Sure it doesn't fit that much in that city, it remodels completely the skyline but the tower is so well thought out and finely detailed that I think it's worth it to build it.

Anyway I'm biased. I love this tower and it would be awesome news if it really restarted construction

"Garrett Kelleher is very committed to the Chicago Spire," his lawyer, Thomas Murphy, told Chicago Real Estate Daily. "We're coming out of the perfect storm, and Garrett thinks this is the perfect product."

If completed, the spire would earn the title of the tallest building in the Western Hemisphere. That title, which is currently still held by the Willis Tower in Chicago, will soon be awarded to the One World Trade Center in New York, upon its completion, as decided by the CTBUH earlier this week.

Wow! I will believe that when they actually start construction and rise. Chicago has long history of bad lucks with many proposed supertalls/hypertalls. I really hope Chicago Spires and this tower will get built but we will see.

that design seems to me very technical....there's nothing Special about it...more or less a function building...nevertheless, because of ist alititude, imposant.

All buildings have to start somewhere. Of course, they're unlikely to be built. But proposed buildings are one step closer to reality than figments of your imagination.

I actually like how this building looks because it's imposing and seems like it came out of a futuristic sci-fi movie. It would look wrong in a city of gothic/art-deco setback buildings like New York, and its height would be too tall for other cities with smaller skylines, but its imposing structure seems perfect for Chicago, which already has other bulky, imposing structures like Sears, Aon, and Hancock.

I hope this gets built within a decade and not cancelled, maybe with a few aesthetic changes but as long as it has the same height.

Though I certainly have my doubts, and if this does get cancelled or is significantly scaled down, I wouldn't be surprised. Chicago isn't exactly experiencing an economic boom, and its population has been stagnant for years now.

No, they were not approved. They will almost certainly not be approved as they are. usafarid just likes to make everything about the US having megatalls and beating other countries and how we're not keeping up, etc.

Let us assume they eventually get built as proposed by they time they are built they will be just two mega talls in a sea of mega talls (2025). It's all about timing so the sooner the better.

Why must there be something special? It is good architecture and that's all that matters.

I'll take 100 elegant but unspecial buildings over one ugly flashy and special one.

if built as is, it would have a 2000 ft roof height. Those things atop are antenna masts like on the Willis Tower
