That would be good news if it happens. They will need tenants of this size to get things going.

Perhaps that maybe for the smaller 305m building? Would be a great kickstarter!

This^

Let's focus on the Chicago Spire for being the city's mega tall. If somehow, someway, the 305m building and the spire got built, Chicago would be close to the point it could be thrown back into the discussion for having the world's best skyline.

This building and all the construction that is ongoing west of the loop is rapidly expanding the skyline, and with the Spire, arguably one of the most beautiful buildings ever conceived, Chicago will be on the map in a way it never has been before. And these are both doing two major things, the spire is giving America it's first mega tall, and the 305m building is helping expand development west of the loop.

This is all speculation though, at this point. Once Kelleher pays off the bankruptcy, and gets investors, we can start a real conversation, that's not to say there isn't a reason to be positive, but for the moment, it's best to wait things out.

Could Walgreens Be The Hero The Old Post Office Needs?

Quote:
Aside from starring in 2008's The Dark Knight, the massive Old Main Post Office has sat unused for years while new owner Bill Davies has tried to get an ambitious, three-phased redevelopment project off the ground to little apparent success. There have been whispers of using the site for a casino, of course, but other than that there have been no word about what's going on with the building. That is, until the news broke via Crains that Walgreens is considering moving their headquarters to the Old Post Office.

Based in the suburb of Deerfield, the retail-pharmacy behemoth has been facing pressure from investors to move the company to Europe, but if they did relocate to downtown Chicago it would be one of the largest in a series of recent "reurbanizations" as large companies move from nearby suburbs to the downtown area in order to attract the best talent as younger populations are trending toward the city. Motorola Mobility just completed a move from Libertyville to a 600,000 square foot office in Merchandise Mart, for instance.

Crains' sources claim that Walgreens, however, is looking for up to 1 million square feet, which would certainly be enough to kickstart Davies' plans to turn the Old Post Office site into a mixed-use megadevelopment.

Since the Crains report, however, Walgreens has issued a vague denial about their plans to move. While it's possible Crains has their facts wrong, it's also possible that Walgreens simply wants to keep their employees from panicking while secret negotiations are underway.
So the negotiations are secretive and Walgreens may do what so many companies have: move to a larger suburban campus. Putting a company headquarters in an urban trophy tower hasn't been popular among business leaders but as core cities outpace suburbs in new growth, could that decades-long trend reverse??

As far as I'm concerned, Chicago was never out of the discussion. In fact, I think there's a very strong case that can be made for it having the best skyline in North America, and a serious contender for the world's best.

It's a very beautiful, cohesive, and technically impressive set of buildings.

When I think "skyline", I think Chicago. Always been that way, probably always will be.

I've always thought of Chicago and Shanghai as one and two, but with the imminent completion of Shanghai tower I'd have to say Shanghai is now in first place.

Which one will be better this one or the spire, personally I like the spire just because but it will be nice to have this too, it fits in more than the white spire

And 2 days back, lol. Surprised he didn't use his LowkeyLion account to post the same stuff again.

But I think Robert has a point though, unless they're looking for an insane amount of space (which a company like walgreens may just be) they probably would just move into an existing building. A 300 or so meter tower or two would be more than welcomed in this part of the city though, Chicago is overdue for more big projects

Oh God, I remember that name, did he use to troll a bunch of threads ? Anyways, the wheels are starting to turn for some big projects, I'm just tired of the waiting. I just want to skip to the boom, you know ? I remember waiting like what seemed like a decade for 1 WTC lol

Don't expect shiny news towers to to rise by the end of the decade. 2030 decade that is.
Alternate account ?

Saying they will move into the existing space is not entirely true, the developer already wants that for parking, and residental. Walgreens on the other hand is a huge ass coporation with the money for a shiny new headquarters.

Also this was mentioned on ssp but shouldn't Rahm just carry around plans for these buildings got to these coporations, and just be like " we'll give you this shiny new HQ, and we'll give you special benefits along with that". I thought this was the most beautiful I've ever heard.
