There seems to be a new consensus in Chinese circles on how to design these new business districts. This one (I don't know what they call this area in Suzhou) reminds me of Guangzhou's new CBD in terms of urban design.

I like that is connects well to the existing environs.

we do not even have a final design. we are kind of hoping it will get a similar extreme height increase like Zhongnan Center did. i mean at look how this turned 729m:

posting on page 5 right now =P
the other tower is expected 450m, but that date and concept design is still from the time this tower was 500m, so i can expect them trying to weight out the other side and making this a megatall aswell, so that it stays kind of symmetrical. If it stays the same ratio as it was planned, the 450m tower would need to be 656m :p but we will see about that. i am just excited how it will turn out, even if it only ends up being 450m

Nope, not just you. Guess the soil necessitates very thorough piling.

Can't wait to see this happen. I guess the eventual twin will be redesigned?

Currently the twin has no design, but the concept one. So yes, it will get a new design

So they are working on the retaining wall, so the piling is hopefully almost done by now

Getting the foundation in this area of China takes forever. The south bank of the Yangtse river is essentially a swamp. Of course Suzhou is a pretty ancient city, so the elements swampiness have subsided due to thousands of years of people living there.. But for a tower of this height you would need a massive foundation, and massive amount of pylons, otherwise it would sink like a knife through warm butter.

I remember with the Shanghai Tower it took a year and a half to get the foundation done and start vertical construction. This will be no different.
