Getting the foundation in this area of China takes forever. The south bank of the Yangtse river is essentially a swamp. Of course Suzhou is a pretty ancient city, so the elements swampiness have subsided due to thousands of years of people living there.. But for a tower of this height you would need a massive foundation, and massive amount of pylons, otherwise it would sink like a knife through warm butter.

I remember with the Shanghai Tower it took a year and a half to get the foundation done and start vertical construction. This will be no different.

If the "twin" in the plastic model is not just a random filler but made to scale, it is massive as well, easily 500-550 meters.

This tower is like a combination of Lotte World tower in Seoul and the Kingdom Tower in Jeddah. The result is one to brag about!

Unfortunately there is no info on the final design in the first post of this thread. Who is the architect again?

Hm. Why are they now using 'conventional' piling machines together with these small ones that are in operation for months? Is there anyone who can point out the (dis-)advantages of each machine?

Looking at the spire in that render on the front cover the spire seems more seamless now then it did before, also you can see the mass damper at the top.

Old Spire

New Spire

Absolutely, now IT IS a real spire, not just a bump on top of the tower!!
