I very much doubt it, the central government didn't mandate anyone to buy other civilian aircraft with shitty sales records, such as MA60/600, ARJ21, and all those helicopters. Domestic airlines are still buying far more competing foreign products.

The central government's mandate is to develop domestic alternatives, and forcing foreign aircraft makers to do technology transfer through JV's in the mainland. We see that happening, and this model is so high profile I doubt the airline executives would risk losing government support and funding by shunning it.

Passengers in China make 290 mln air trips this year: CAAC

BEIJING, Dec. 26 (Xinhua) -- Air passengers will have made 290 million trips in China this year, up 8.2 percent from last year, an aviation official said Monday.

Li Jun, deputy chief of Civil Aviation Administration of China, said here at a national civil aviation conference that China's aviation industry has witnessed a surge in passenger volume this year, with total air freight volume also expected to rise 6.6 percent year-on-year to 57.4 billion tonnes/kilometers this year.

Supported by the steady growth in passenger volume, China's aviation industry is expected to see a 5.1 percent growth in net profit to 45.6 billion yuan (7.18 billion U.S.dollars) this year, offsetting rising fuel costs and the grim global market condition, Li said.

A total of 76.5 percent of scheduled flights in China have been on time in the first eleven months of this year, up 1.9 percentage points from the same period last year, Li added.

Regulators will continue to improve flight punctuality and strive to increase the rate by 2 percentage points in the coming year, he said.

The CAAC expects air passenger volume to continue to grow by 10.3 percent to top 320 million next year, with air cargo volume up 10.1 percent to 63.2 billion tonnes/kilometers, Li said.

Chinese airlines add 14,000 flights during spring travel rush

BEIJING, Jan. 8 (Xinhua) -- China's civil aviation regulator said Sunday that it has given the green light for domestic airlines to add 14,000 flights to meet massive passenger flow during the 40-day peak spring travel season, which started Sunday.

Passengers are expected to make 34.88 million more trips by air during the Spring Festival travel rush this year, up 7 percent from last year, Xia Xinghua, deputy director of the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC), said in a press conference.

Xia said airlines are currently running nearly 8,000 flights each day at a capacity that is able to carry 1 million passengers on a daily basis.

The CAAC has specially approved the addition of 412 flights every week so Taiwan businesspeople in the mainland can reunite with their families during the holiday season, Xia said.

The CAAC also vowed to improve flight punctuality during the period.

Meanwhile, Xia said a coordination system between airlines, airports and aviation regulators has been set up to ensure the smooth and safe running of flights in case of freezing rain or heavy snow.

The Spring Festival, or the Chinese Lunar New Year, falls on Jan. 23 this year.

If China Southern gets more A380 to use internationally what are the odds it comes to ICN? ICN already gets Korean Air oA380 obviously and Emirates A380. One more airline would be great.

Heavy fog strands 1,500 at airport, closes highways in NW China city

YINCHUAN, Jan. 15 (Xinhua) -- Sunday morning brought heavy fog to the city of Yinchuan, capital of northwest China's Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region, stranding over 1,500 passengers after flights were delayed due to low visibility.

The thick fog reduced visibility to just 100 meters at the Hedong Airport, far below the 800-meter minimum needed for planes to safely take off and land, said a spokesman with the Ningxia Airport Company.

Visibility in some parts of the city was lowered to 50 meters, according to Yinchuan's meteorological observatory, which issued a fog warning Sunday morning.

Police closed five highways in the area Sunday morning and are restricting traffic on other highways in the province, as visibility has been reduced to as low as 5 meters in some areas, according to Ningxia's traffic police department.

New regular flights link Tibet with east China cities

LHASA, Jan. 16 (Xinhua) -- Southwest China's Tibet Autonomous Region is getting closer to other parts of the country with the opening of new regular flights.

Xiamen Airlines, based in the eastern Chinese city of Xiamen in Fujian Province, launched a new flight between Fujian's capital of Fuzhou and Tibet's capital of Lhasa on Sunday, a company spokesman said Monday.

The round-trip flight, with a stopover in southwest China's city of Chongqing, will be operated every Wednesday and Saturday, the spokesman said. A refitted 128-seat Boeing 737-700 will be used for the flight.

Xiamen Airlines will launch another new regular flight linking Lhasa with Xiamen on Tuesday, the spokesman said.

"Transportation links between east China and Tibet will be further strengthened," he said.

To date, eight domestic airlines have offered air services to Tibet, linking Lhasa with a dozen Chinese cities.

The Shanghai-Lhasa air route was previously the only air route between Tibet and east China.
