Historic city invites SZ travelers
2012-October-15 08:53
Shenzhen Daily

QUZHOU, a historic and cultural city in western Zhejiang Province, is expecting more travelers from Shenzhen and other Pearl River Delta cities with the opening of more flights to the city starting Oct. 28.

Shenzhen Airlines flights from Shenzhen to Quzhou will increase to one flight per day, from the current four flights per week.

The daily flight will leave Shenzhen at 7:05 p.m. and arrive at Quzhou at 8:40 p.m. It will return at 9:40 p.m. and arrive at Shenzhen at 11:20 p.m.

We have prepared many itineraries for tourists from Shenzhen, including a classic three-day and two-night itinerary to see Jianglang Mountain, a world nature heritage site and the shrine of the Southern Division of the Confucius Family, Zheng Bing, vice chief of Quzhou Citys tourism bureau, said at a briefing in Shenzhen on Saturday.

Quzhou, a city with more than 1,800 years of history, neighbors Jiangxi, Anhui and Fujian provinces. Travelers can visit 10 world nature and cultural heritage sites within 200 kilometers, Zheng said.

In a drive of less than two hours, travelers can visit Sanqingshan Mountain and Wuyuan, one of the most beautiful country villages in China, in Jiangxi, along with Huangshan Mountain in Anhui and Qiandaohu Lake, and Hangzhous West Lake in Zhejiang Province.

Quzhou was established during the Eastern Han Dynasty (25-220). With a population of 2.52 million, its now a State-level historic and cultural city. Its airport handles around 180,000 passengers a year.

China Southern to buy 10 A330-300 aircraft
AFP Excerpt
Thu, Dec 6, 2012

China Southern Airlines, the country's largest airline by fleet size, said Wednesday it will buy 10 Airbus A330-300 aircraft in a deal worth $1.88 billion at list price to boost its capacity.

The airline said the acquisition will "facilitate the strategic change and the internationalisation of the company", the firm said in a statement to the Hong Kong stock exchange where it is listed.

"The Airbus aircraft will be delivered in stages to the company during the period commencing from 2014 to 2016," the airline said, adding that the acquisition will be financed through internal resources and bank loans.

The airline said the purchase will enhance its "competitiveness" and increase the carrier's available tonne kilometre -- a measurement for airline capacity -- by 5.7 percent, when the new aircraft are delivered.

*************************

The deal came two weeks after rival China Eastern Airlines, a smaller Shanghai-based carrier, ordered 60 Airbus A320 in a deal worth $5.39 billion to satisfy the country's booming domestic travel demand.

The two deals came less than a month after the European Union caved in to critics on its contested carbon tax on air travel by freezing for a year a plan to force non-EU airlines to pay for carbon emissions.

Foundation laying for airport near central China Taoist resort

WUHAN, Dec. 8 (Xinhua) -- A foundation laying ceremony was held Saturday for an airport near Mount Wudang, a Taoist resort in central China's Hubei Province, authorities said.

Construction on the Wudangshan Airport will be kicked off soon and it will be the fifth airport to be built in the province, the provincial government said in a press release.

The airport is scheduled to be built with an investment of 1.54 billion yuan (247 million U.S. dollars), and is expected to become operational in 2015, it said.

The airport is 20 km from the Mount Wudang and about 15 km from Shiyan city proper.

One of China's planned regional airports, the airport's planned 2,600-meter-long runway will support operations of feeder liners with flight distances of 800 to 1,500 km.

The airport is designed to handle 900,000 passengers and 2,250 tones of cargoes and mails by 2020.

Mount Wudang, with a long history associated with Taoism, is home to numerous palaces and temples that exemplify the architectural and artistic feats of China's imperial Yuan, Ming and Qing dynasties.

The cluster of palaces and temples dedicated to Taoism were built in the scenic valleys and on the slopes of Mount Wudang, which UNESCO included on the World Cultural Heritage List in 1994.

As I understand yield is pretty high on this route?

And by the way, any chances to see Hainan expanding its European network?

WTF HNA, no Seattle-Shanghai? WHY? There is already Seattle-Beijing to serve northern China, time to add a direct flight to Eastern China.

Airport construction boom in China

BEIJING, Jan. 10 (Xinhuanet) -- The domestic airport expansion has been flying high in recent years, especially during the run-up to the 2008 Beijing Olympics. The construction boom was a topic at this years Airport Expansion Summit in Beijing.

Industry leaders and aviation regulators discussed ways to expand air transportation and accelerate the civil aviation infrastructure across the country, especially in small cities.

The use of new equipment to enhance airport operations was also discussed. Forum participants say economic growth, social mobility and the rapidly expanding middle-class have all contributed to the country's drive to build or expand its airports.

According to the IATA Airline Industry Forecast, China will have the second-largest volume of domestic flight passengers, after the US, by 2016, with 415 million fliers.

35.5 mln plane trips forecast during Spring Festival

Jan. 17 (Xinhua) -- As many as 35.5 million plane trips will be made in China during the six-week Spring Festival travel period, the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC) forecast on Thursday.

The Spring Festival travel period spans from Jan. 26 to March 6, during which airports are expected to deal with a combined passenger volume of 35.5 million, up 5.2 percent year on year, according to Xia Xinghua, deputy head of the CAAC.

The CAAC vowed to make every effort to ensure safe and normal flights during the forthcoming travel period, urging its air traffic control departments to closely monitor complex weather conditions and issue early warnings.

The CAAC also called for airport public security departments to take decisive measures against passengers' violent illegal actions that disrupt normal airport operations.

Spring Festival, the most prominent holiday of the Chinese for family gathering and travel, falls on Feb. 10 this year.
