Air China to Start Beijing-Colombo Service

http://www.prnewswire.com/news-relea...300163600.html

Quote:
BEIJING, Oct. 21, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Air China will start a Beijing-Colombo service on October 27, 2015. The service will give passengers easy access to the island gem in the Indian Ocean.

Colombo is Sri Lanka's capital and political, economic, cultural and transportation center. Taking a leisurely stroll through the streets of the South Asian coastal city imbued with exotic charms is truly a rewarding experience - flowers are in bloom, coconut trees sway gently in the breeze, fishermen are on stilts, sandy beaches extend, Buddhist pagodas and temples are dotted around, kind and friendly locals make you feel welcome, and aromas of spices waft into the nostrils. Hop onto a century-old train for the world's most beautiful train ride through green tea hills and along the blue sea; onboard, sip on a cup of fragrant Ceylon red tea and take in the breathtaking views along the way, and you will feel you are in a fairytale world.

Currently, China has become Sri Lanka's second largest trading partner and source of imports as well as its fastest growing source of travelers. Statistics released by the Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau suggest that about 12,000 Chinese travelers visited Sri Lanka in May, up 71.9% year on year. The forthcoming Beijing-Colombo service will open up more travel opportunities for business and leisure travelers from the northern and northeastern parts of China.

Friendship and trading between China and Sri Lanka have been taking place for centuries. Zhe He, the Ming dynasty's legendary sea navigator, paid repeated visits to Sri Lanka on his epic seafaring voyages to the seas in the west. Now, Sri Lanka is an important part of the "21st Century Silk Road on the Sea" on the Indian Ocean.

The timely opening of the Beijing-Colombo service will become an air bridge linking the two nations and contributing to their development in the fields of economy, trading, investment and tourism. Meanwhile, the new route is also one of Air China's most important moves in 2015 to cement its global presence with its hub in Beijing and expand its route network serving South and Southeast Asia.

The carrier will also start other new routes to destinations in the Asia Pacific region including Beijing-Mumbai, Beijing-Islamabad-Karachi and Beijing-Kuala Lumpur. These new routes will bring the number of destinations in the Asia Pacific region that the carrier serves up to 19, offering more travel options and benefits to business and leisure passengers traveling between Beijing and other cities in the Asia Pacific region.

About the flights

The flights, CA873/4, are operated three times a week on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. The outbound flight departs from Beijing at 13:30 Beijing time and arrives in Colombo at 19:10 local time. The return flight departs from Colombo at 21:10 local time and arrives in Beijing at 07:00 the following day. The flights are to be operated with Airbus 330-300 aircraft. Its Business Class seats can turn into full-flat beds and its Premium Economy Class seats offer 120% of the legroom of the Standard Economy Class seats. The ergonomically designed standard Economy Class seats make travel more pleasant. All classes of service offer personal AVOD, keeping passengers entertained for the duration of the flight.

Air China, China Southern dismiss report of possible merger
Excerpt

BEIJING/HONG KONG, Oct 22 (Reuters) - Air China and China Southern Airlines dismissed a media report of a possible merger of the two state-owned carriers, which had caused their share prices to close at their upper limits in Shanghai on Thursday.

Shanghai Securities News, owned by the official Xinhua News Agency, had reported that both airlines were likely to join forces, citing market talk, as Beijing moves to consolidate bloated state-run conglomerates to improve competitiveness.

But Air China Ltd, the country's biggest airline by market value, and China Southern Airlines Co Ltd, the largest by fleet size, each said in separate filings on the Hong Kong and Shanghai stock exchanges that they had no knowledge of such plans.

Air China said: "Upon inquiry with China National Aviation Holding Company, the controlling shareholder of the company, neither the company nor its controlling shareholder has ever received any information, written or verbal, from any government authority concerning the above mentioned reports."

The Civil Aviation Administration of China, the country's aviation regulator, also said it had no knowledge of such a merger.

A China Southern executive had earlier told Reuters that the company knew nothing about it.

"We know nothing about it. There had been some market talk on the merger of the cargo business of state carriers earlier, and now comes talk about a merger of Air China and China Southern," the executive said.

PEK-MAN-PEK Services announced and confirmed...
Quote:
The introduction of a scheduled link from Manchester to China has been under discussion for a long time and there has been increased speculation over the past couple of years that an agreement is imminent. There was a suggestion that a route would have been launched this year, but issues with the crewing of its Airbus A330 fleet is understood to have delayed a final deal being agreed with Hainan Airlines.

China’s President, Xi Jinping is expected to formally confirm a new Hainan Airlines link between Beijing and Manchester as part of his four day visit to the UK. The visit from October 20-23, 2015 is the first by a Chinese head of state to the UK since Hu Jintao flew to the UK in 2005 and has been lauded as establishing a “golden era” of bilateral relations and strengthening economic and financial ties between the two countries.

Here’s the proposed flight schedule for the service as loaded in the GDS...

Beijing – Manchester – Beijing
HU7903 PEK0145 – 0605MAN 330 x247
HU7904 MAN1200 – 0525+1PEK 330 x247

President Xi Jinping is due in Manchester on October 23, 2015, the final day of his state visit. He is scheduled to visit the National Graphene Institute at Manchester University with UK chancellor George Osborne and will join the Prime Minister, David Cameron at Manchester City’s stadium, followed by lunch at Manchester town hall hosted by the Lord Mayor of Manchester, and attended by civic and business representatives.

Both Cameron and Xi will then attend an event at Manchester Airport when details of the new flight are expected to be announced. This event could also be the location for an announcement on a rumoured investment by Hanian Airlines parent, HNA Group, on the acquisition of a majority stake in MAG Airports.

However, we can now confirm that the airline is ready to start the route in summer 2016 and just as China’s leader arrived in the UK, it loaded schedules for a new four times weekly Beijing – Manchester flight into the GDS, launching from June 10, 2016. This will be flown using an Airbus A330-200

This suggestion on the airport deal has been fuelled by HNA Group, Chief Executive Officer, Cheng Feng being among the 150-member entrepreneurial delegation that is accompanying Xi on his visit to the UK. This business delegation includes CEOs and senior executives from various crucial commercial sectors including finance, infrastructure, energy, the automotive industry, aviation, insurance, culture, as well as investment, according to Chinese reports
The route was formally announced yesterday at Manchester Airport by the Chinese President just before he left to fly home. This is great news for Manchester and and we look forward to welcoming visitors to the region from China.

New Qantas-China Eastern partnership to result in 30 percent more flights to Tasmania
Excerpt

MELBOURNE, Nov. 16 (Xinhua) -- The unprecedented boom in Chinese tourism to Tasmania has prompted Qantas, Australia's national airline, to enter a partnership with China Eastern Airlines which will result in 30 percent more flights to the island next year.

Qantas on Monday announced it would add a further 11 weekly return flights - 46, up from 35 - to the Tasmanian capital, Hobart, from Melbourne and Sydney by March 2016.

The announcement will form part of Qantas' "one-ticket" scheme with Shanghai-based China Eastern, which will allow Chinese visitors to travel from China to Hobart - or the north Tasmanian city of Launceston - without needing to purchase separate tickets.

Flight codes for China Eastern, under the new arrangement, will feature on Qantas services from Melbourne and Sydney to Hobart, as well as flights from Melbourne to Launceston.

Tasmania's state Premier Will Hodgman said on Monday the deal would make the area more accessible to Chinese tourists, as the island state aimed to reach 1.5 million visitors by 2020.

Air China slapped with Rs 50K penalty for not providing veg meal to ex governor
Dec 31, 2015
The Times of India Excerpt

Air China, state-owned carrier of People's Republic of China, was slapped with a penalty of Rs 50,000 by a Bhopal consumer court for not providing 'Hindu Meal' (vegetarian) to former governor of Manipur and Nagaland and his wife when they were travelling from Beijing to San Francisco.

The December 29 order of the District Consumer Disputes Redressal Forum instructed Air China to pay Rs 50,000 as compensation to former governor, O N Shrivastav, 73, and also pay Rs 10,000 as legal fee, within two months, failing which an interest will be charged at 9% per annum.

Shrivastav, a resident of Bhopal served as governor of Manipur and Nagaland between 1994 and 1999. From August 5, 1994, to November 11, 1996, he served as governor of both Nagaland and Manipur and for remaining term, he was governor of Manipur.

Counsel for Shrivastav, Ehtesham Quereshi said, "The order has specified that a consumer may not file complaint from the city where he/she has booked air tickets. In this case, Shrivastav took a flight from Delhi and then Beijing."

"O N Shrivastav and his wife Nini booked a ticket through a travel agent for travelling to San Francisco on May 30, 2015. The company allocated joint seats to the senior citizen couple, but when they reached Delhi airport and took boarding tickets, they were informed their seats had been changed," said Quereshi. They were senior citizens and should have been provided seats together, he said.

While booking tickets, the couple had mentioned they are vegetarian and will have 'Hindu meal', but this too was not provided. The couple had to go hungry during the 11.4-hour flight from Beijing to San Francisco and were unable to take medicines prescribed after meals, said the complaint.
