The Albert Dock

Through my thread so far we have seen the range of architecture styles on display in the city, from the classical St Georges Hall and the gothic-revival Anglican Cathedral to the modern Liverpool One development. Another important piece of this diversity lies in the Albert Dock - a complex of warehouses that have been regenerated to form the most visited multi-use attraction in Britain, outside London. This dock (opened in 1846) was the first building to be built out of cast iron in Britain and featured the world's first hydraulic cranes!

There are more to come . . . . . .

Albert Dock looks very nice! The street level of the old warehouses seems very well used, and I know at least one warehouse is used as a hotel. Are the upper floors, if they exist as such, of the other buildings occupied?

The Upper floors are a mixture of apartments and offices and i presume most of the apartments are occupied, i very rarely see any for sale/let signs about since they are quite sought after

Brilliant, that's excellent use of old building stock. Thanks for the answer!

Mossy, I have enjoyed your beautiful pictures of Liverpool. Like I said on Openly Jane's thread, I have a particular interest in Liverpool because my family came from there in the 1800s. They came from Liverpool to St. Louis in the 1800s.

Wow you should definitely visit Liverpool then. Would be nice if you came by ship and pass the waterfront since that may have been the last view your family saw of Liverpool when they left!

Here are some more Albert Dock photos as promised :

One of my favourite views from the Albert Dock, it takes you back in time a little:

Mossy, my family had marriages, christenings, deaths at St. Peters & St. Nicholas in central Liverpool (Anglican). I am trying to figure out if you have pictures of those churches here. Did one have a steeple fall?

Speechless.

This city bleeds culture and history and at the same time it's a very cool, funky, youthful place.
