A must see are the GM, Ford, and Motown stores at the entrance to the McNamara terminal.

Detroit airport gets $5 million grant for taxiway
http://www.crainsdetroit.com/article...ay-improvement
Quote:
Detroit Metropolitan Airport has been awarded a $5 million federal grant to renovate its taxiway.

Michigan's two U.S. senators announced the grant from the U.S. Department of Transportation on Monday. They say the airport is crucial to the state's economy and improvements will boost business activity and tourism in the area.

The airport in Romulus is the 18th busiest airport in North America in terms of total passenger traffic. It had 32.4 million passengers last year. The airport was 24th busiest by cargo volume, with about 215,000 metric tons shipped.

Virgin Atlantic is going to add nonstop service to London-Heathrow from Detroit.

CBS News: Stylish Virgin Atlantic Adds Detroit-London Route

Quote:
ROMULUS (CBS Detroit) – Virgin Atlantic – the airline known for its stylish flight attendant uniforms and in-flight amenities that harken a more glamours time of travel – will begin flying out of Detroit Metropolitan Airport in 2015.
The airline announced Wednesday that it will offer new daily service between Metro Airport and London Heathrow as part of Virgin’s expansion transatlantic flights in the summer of 2015.
“Transatlantic flying has always been at the heart of our network and our most financially successful region,” Virgin Atlantic Chief Executive Craig Kreeger said in a release. “Today’s announcement allows us to play to our strengths and focus our network on routes between the UK and US, as well as other critical global destinations that are most important to our customers.”
Virgin is taking over the summer-only service Delta Air Lines currently operates and will be extending it to a year-round service, according to the company.

i visited this airport last week on February 28, 2015. I absolutely love the architecture and the interior design. It is airy, roomy, and flooded with natural light. I also love how Delta adorns its widget logo here and there. The red trains whisk passengers quietly on top of your head. It feels so futuristic!!

However, two things bugged me:
1. It is hard to take a picture from the boarding gate because the windows have tonnes of those small black dots to block the sun. From a distance, you can see outside clearly but when you stand closer then you will see it

2. The shops are incredibly boring... it's basically 8-10 brands and each of these brands is multiplied by 2-3 shops placed along the terminal buildings. But the offerings remain the same wherever you go. Snacks, magazines, books, sunglasses, and merchandises about the city of Detroit. That's it... I had a 5-hour layover at this airport. If I didn't have access to Delta Skyclub and spend my time there, I think I would have easily felt bored

Just some questions:
I am planning a short visit to Detroit this summer. What is the best way to go Downtown? Is there a public bus to downtown Detroit? How long it takes? What about a taxi? Very expensive?
Sorry for my English!
Thank you very much

There is one bus route that serves the airport. SMART Bus Route 125 serves the airport approximately every half hour, beginning alternately at the North and McNamara terminals (no bus serves both terminals), and takes about 75 min to get to Downtown Detroit with the fare being $2.00.

https://www.smartbus.org/

Taxi Fare is going to be roughly around $45-$50. Personally if I was planning to visit the Detroit area I would rent a car as the public transit network in Detroit leaves a lot to be desired even by US standards (plus a lot of the attractions that are worthwhile for visiting are not even in the city proper such as Greenfield Village and the Detroit Zoo).

Well there is a reason why it is called the "Motor City".

Anyways there are plans to build a commuter rail line from Ann Arbor to Detroit that would also serve the airport but so far it has not gained any traction.
