So what's your opinion about Holmenkollen vs. Planica. Which venue is more historic, famous, more cult, bigger? Both venues are famous and popular all over the world.
We have: Holmenkollen - they say this is mecca/wimbledon of ski jumping - 1892 (tradition) - lots of viewers, visitors, fans - 1 Olympics, 4 World Championships Planica - first jump over 100m - first jump over 200m - they say this is mecca/wimbledon of Ski-flying (this discipline was born here) - 1932 first hill built (also a lots of tradition) - lots and lots of viewers, visitors, fans (almost every single World Cup event has 30-60 thousand spectators and whole weekend 80-100 thousand) - 40 world records (12 Bloudkova Velikanka; 29 Letalnica bratov Gorišek) - plus 8 invalid world records on Letalnica (fall or ouching the snow) - best slowmotions (and background music) - beautiful panorama Big dilemma? What do you Norwegians think? Last edited by vivaldi mausefalle; October 13th, 2011 at 01:08 AM. |

I enjoy Planica much more than Holmenkollen, because ski flying is the ultimate sport to me. Also many competitions in Holmenkollen has been cancelled due to too much fog, which rarely happens in Planica. So for me, Planica is my favorite out of those two. Vikersund is the most exciting hill right now, though, because it`s the biggest. But I don`t really care where the largest hill is, as long as we just get to see longer and longer jumps. It could be in New Zealand for all I care. |

And it's funny because Vikersund which is just about sea level can reach longer distance with much (5-6 km/h lower) lower inrun speed than in Planica which is about 900 m above sea level |
