What is a beautiful palace. Is it open to the public?

It is touristically sooo underemployed: in every other city it would have been the main sight but in Rome it just lags behind the main sights, the archeological sites and the renaissance or baroque churches...

It is opened (a small part and the gardens) only on sundays for the morning...

[QUOTE=Cal_Escapee;89474394]White House, Washington, DC

........QUOTE]

Two true stories from when I lived in Washington - I overheard a young couple taking in view from Old Post Office tower saying things like "oh, look at that white house. I wonder what that white house is?" To which I replied - "That would be the White House!"
On another occasion, standing right in front of the White House, I was approached by a professional looking woman who asked me "Can you tell me where to find the White House?" To which I said nothing but simply pointed to the building. Her look was one of surprise.
I was never quite sure, but I suspect that many people come to Washington thinking that the White House is a very large building and don't realize that, iconic though it is, it is fairly modest in size - more a mansion than a "palace".

The official residence of the Swedish Prime minister is the Sager house in Stockholm.

The Prime minister has also got a country residence, Harpsund.

The King is the Head of State in Sweden, and he lives at Drottningholm Palace just outside of Stockholm.

Yes Tommolo, you're right, the Quirinale palace is the official presidential palace of Italy, and it is awesome indeed. Anyway could be interesting to remember that in italy beside the president of the republic there is also the prime minister, and here is the prime minister palace, Palazzo Chigi:

Sala del Consiglio:

THIS

A friend of mine from Toronto and I went to visit DC last March. We were both underwhelmed when we saw the White House. Like most people, we expected it to be quite large, when in fact, it was rather small. Quite a contrast with the other famous monuments and buildings in the city which were in every sense of the word huge

Quite right, but while the prime minister is defacto leader, in a constitutional monarchy like ours he is not our head of state, he only serves the Queen as head of the government, and the Governor General occupies the role in HRM Queen Elizabeth's absence. Liz II is the real head of state, but the GG serves as the real one practically. Of course, we only allow this because the GG only exercises power occasionally, but when they do it's good to have a non-partisan referee who can step in to end the madness and make limited decisions, without having to worry about being elected, in the interests of the country.
