Okinawa Island was originally split into 3 kingdoms.. the central Kingdom won and united the island.. then they expanded and united the outer Ryukyuan Islands. The king then went to China to get acknowledgement and obtained the name Sho for himself and the name Ryukyu for his country

My dad was stationed in Okinawa in the 70s when he was in the US Air Force. He always talked about how beautiful the island is, and your photos prove it. Thanks for the phototour!

Thanks! was he posted before Okinawa's reversion to Japanese administration (when people drive on the right side like the US, different currency from Japan, etc) or after (people drive on the left like Japan, Japanese Yen used, etc)?

I've also only posted pictures of the city so far the nature areas are much nicer.

i made such a thread? can't remember

Tempest is a fictional story set in real history, about a woman who dresses up as a man (Nakama Yukie) to get a government job during the Ryukyu Kingdom period. she does this since at that time, only men were allowed to study certain things and hold certain positions/jobs.
