steveve's Toronto city model

In case you guys don't know what this is, I built a city model a while back, and right now i'm building a better, more detailed, "version 2.0", or at least focusing on a certain area.

If you want more photos/information, check out the original UrbanToronto thread here:

http://urbantoronto.ca/forum/showthr...nto-city-model

Neither model is perfect, and you'll find plenty of inaccuracies, but for a general reference, it'll do.

This is the old/main one, it was never really finished.... i lost interest somewhere in between, the scale is approx. 2.25cm: 50m

slightly larger,
Version 1 = 2.25cm: 50m

Version 2 = 2.5cm: 50m

so the difference is .25 of a centimetre

Wow! I tip my hat to you. That would take me untold hours in 3D to build, I can only imagine the amount of time it takes you to do it.

Excellent work! I'm glad you are going to keep us updated.

When I was in Grade 5 my teacher wanted to design a scale model of Toronto. It was way too big a project for us then. We couldn't even figure out how to create the Gardiner.

You have done an amazing job with the resources you have and I hope that more people are inspired by your work.

Cheers, m

TY everyone ^

Update August 4, 2011:

The Standard Life Centre was built along the base of the Royal York Hotel and another building was added to the FCP podium.

I'm thinking the Bay Adelaide Centre will be next, just because I know Scotia Plaza and Trump tower will take a while.... but i'll get to it soon, (you can see the holes/footprints where those towers will sit)

Matt, what do you do? I'm a senior environmental modeler at a VFX studio. What software do you use? I use Maya for the most part.

Do you know any software other then sketch-up? You should get yourself a copy of Maya or Max and start playing around with them. I bet you'll find them fun. I teach Environmental modeling with Maya at Max the Mutt if you have any questions.

I work mostly in 3D physical models, but for 3D computer work I use Rhino, though I'd prefer to get my hands on 3D Max. Rhino can do the job pretty decently but I've been exporting for the final rendering as rendering to photorealism in Rhino is next to impossible.

I go to school for Industrial Design, hoping to do a masters in Architecture once done. Mostly building physical models but from time to time develop 3D computer models to go along with it.

Steveve, do you mind if I ask how old you are?
