Not quite true...

[QUOTE=ExWNY'er;82615666]Here is Kleinhans Music Hall in Buffalo, NY. It was designed by Eliel and Eero Saarinen. It is acoustically perfect and considered on the of the best music halls in the US.

I guess their hometown band and it's hall, but far from true about Kleinhans, fine as it may be in many ways.

Below is an edited quote from an interview of engineer Robert Pound:

"We made acoustical measurements of the new Kleinhans Music Hall, which was designed by Saarinen and supposedly had elegant acoustical design. It was a new music hall, and they were very proud of it. They engaged Stokowski with the Philadelphia Orchestra for the opening concert. He gave very high praise to the acoustics but the audience wasn't that impressed. It turned out the auditorium was very dead as far as the audience was concerned. When we used the reverberation time meter, we confirmed that it was very dead.

It seems that society women in Buffalo had contributed carpeting for the whole place, after the hall had been designed. It was very much more damped than was intended. Happily, it was built with adjustable panels, perforated panels behind which the absorber was located, so you could reduce the absorption in the ceilings to compensate. It came out better after such changes. Anyway, I gather that it got written up in various acoustical journals because I talked to Leo Beranek not long ago, and he knew about it."

The wide fan shape and the large size of the hall (2,800+) are among the problematic factors. The carpet under the seats was not removed until 2014!

While not purpose built, this former central post office in Wolverhampton, England is soon to be converted into a music hall.

Wikimedia Commons

It temporarily replaces the Civic Hall, our primary music venue, although I hope it lives on afterwards. The Civic' is closing for a short while to allow a new balcony to be built upping its capacity.

The Civic Hall:

Next door is the Wulfrun Hall, another music hall.

Express and Star

A third present music hall is the Slade Rooms.

I don't think this venue is particularly large though (hence its subtitle).

So THOSE are the other 2. Buenos Aires' Colon Theatre is the third, but I didn't know which ones were the 2 better than it

I really like this Miami Hall. Some of the other halls, including Radio City Music Hall, are just TOO large.
