Because it was shot in the summer of course. St-Petersburg is actually quite far north, roughly on the same latitude as Oslo, so it's perfectly normal to be that light out at that time of the evening.

Brest-Moscow highway has been built for 1980 Olympics, the whole length is 2x2, Russian part is 440km, most of the Russian part doesn't have safety barriers, except areas near of Moscow and close to Bellorussian border. By 2012 will be built completely new 19km toll road bypassing Odintsovo town near of Moscow to improve traffic situation in the Moscow suburbs, this road will be connected to M1

And from Warsaw to the East?
For Russia it seems the biggest road infrastructure project nowadays is completely new toll road Moscow-St.Petersburg. But for sure M1 will be upgraded for 2018 Football World Cup

On the other side, getting a Belorussian visa for a Pole is a real nightmare. I've considered a trip East some time ago and I resigned - the visas are expensive and getting one requires dealing with so much paperwork that I've decided that it's not worth the expense.
it seems things change

In 1999 I travelled with bus from Poland to Ukraine, the polish could enter Ukraine without visa and vice versa. The customs only asked where they would stay and for how long.

There is currently no visa requirement for Ukraine, only the border formalities take damn long. 1 - 2 hours waiting seems like the minimum during the day.

Most of Poland's businesses are located in the West, and the business is done with western and southern Europe. There's no need for a highway to Russia.

Perhaps it's important from Russian point of view, but I don't know if the traffic levels would cover the construction costs

Traffic volumes east of Warszawa are approximately 20 000 to Mińsk Mazowiecki, 15 000 to Siedlce, 7 000 to Biała Podlaska and 3 500 vehicles at the passenger car border crossing at Terespol and 1 400 trucks at the freight border crossing at Kukuryki.

As for Poland, in late 2012 / early 2013 there will be:
- a full-profile motorway from polish-german border to Warsaw;
- half of southern expressway bypass of Warsaw
- a full-profile motorway around Mińsk Mazowiecki (small city east from Warsaw)
- fully modernised 1x2 / 2x1 highway from Warsaw to polish-belarussian border, with many bypasses.

Detailed design for motorway in Poland can be found here:
http://siskom.waw.pl/a2.htm

Detailed design for expressway around Warsaw can be found here:
http://siskom.waw.pl/s2.htm

Existing and prognosed traffic volumes are to low outside Warsaw Metropolitan Area to build a motorway there. Siedlce or Międzyrzec Podlaski (National Road 19) is as far as it makes sense till 2035.

In my opinion, the eastern part of A2 motorway from Mińsk Mazowiecki to Belarusian border should be needed as late as in 2018, before the World Football Championship.
By that time, requirements of visas for EU citizens to Russia should be abolished too.

4x4 is 16 lanes, 3x3 is 9 lanes. I assume you meant 2x4 or 2x3 ?
