You know.... It's not about how much natural ressources we could benefit from it, it's all about how we'll take advantage of it .... With the amount of people we have we could achieve unimaginable things ...

OMG! We better hurry and approve something in reply! Though I don't think transporting anything other than human at the speed of 350km is possible so I don't see how this is any faster. There would be price compeition if you ask me. Also things may pass without us knowing what's passing.

The only nation that would benefit from that is Israel, other nations would not be able to use it as it would be inefficient to go sea>land>sea. There's a reason why country's dug canals instead of building railways.

Eitherway I still think that we should get eliat back and have like 1km boarder with Jordan also close the gulf of Aqaba it shouldn't be international water.

We still control the Strait of Tiran along with Saudi Arabia btw, if we want to we could just start charging boats that pass there.

Nope, the Strait of Tiran is the only thing leading out of the Gulf of Aqaba.

No They are called the Straits of Tiran, the Strait of Tiran is the one between sharm and tiran island. It has the deepest water so big ships can only cross to the gulf of attaba from there the other tiran straits aren't deep enough. Anyways the islands are Saudi but the Saudi king gave them to Egypt prior the war. Today both islands are controlled by Egypt. Also someone mentioned a base is on the island but I can't find it.

So really we can close the gulf of Aqaba even though it's international water

Yeah, there is a base there. They're making sure that Egypt doesn't close the strait and allows passage to Israeli ships.

I meant an Egyptian one. But heck I can't find a single koshk in the island let alone a base it's a complete desert! You can barely see few boats near its coasts between sharm and the island.

Not to mention that Egypt do actually block Israeli ships.

I don't understand why israel wants to do this. Is it because they know they won't be able to get the suez canal back and so they want to form some sort of competition to destroy egypt's revenue?

Israel can use the Suez Canal just like any other nation, it's just that they want to try to find alternative options in case of a war I presume. There is no way a land route can replace a canal, that's the reason why they built a canal in Suez in the first place.

Yes that, also I think it has to do with this,
http://digital.ahram.org.eg/Economy.aspx?Serial=778349

And the Islamist taking majority in the parliment. As if the train run at the speed of 350km/h for these king of heavy transportation and not only passenger transportation then the project may damage our economy.

Even so, they'll only be able to transport minimal things on these trains. Besides, the suez canal is essential for trans-continental trade. And Abul Fotouh seems intelligent and these economic reforms should cover up for any revenue lost due to the competition of israel

Yea I agree, though the Bahrain-Israel rail is the one that's worrying me the most now.

Wait I just realised that in case of a war the starit of tiran would be closed so what are you on about?

UK warship passes through Suez Canal under heavy security

Quote:
HMS Somerset, one of the UK’s 13 type 23 frigates that are the mainstay of the country’s surface fleet, passed Wednesday through Egypt’s Suez Canal, heading to the Mediterranean.

The passing process was marked with tight security measures for the warship, which can carry nearly 10,000 tons.

The warship is expected to arrive at the Maltese Grand Harbour before returning to the UK, Times of Malta reported on Wednesday.

HMS Somerset sailed from the UK last August, spending six-month tour of duty conducting maritime security operations that included cracking down on piracy, smuggling, terrorism, human trafficking and the illegal arms trade.

Saudi may have plenty of oil, however, it's diminishing fast and I can't wait until the day when their oil runs out and they'll be worth less than the sand they inhabit.
The Nile does not only belong to Egypt as far as i remember isnt it ,and now the ethiopiansa are building many dams maybe tomorrow kenya and sudans will start to build dams so do you guys think that nile will be sufficient for Egypt after ethiopian dams???

None of the dams being built in Ethiopia will affect Egypt's Nile share. They're only being built to harvest energy and create electricity.

No, urm the worry is that the dam been built in ethiopia due to many factor, its storage lack could flood the nile causing a huge flood in sudan and Egypt, the first of its kind since the pharoh's era.
