Romania is a Southeastern Europe country. It's Bran Castle is more popular and best place to visit. Then Sighisoara, Timișoara, Peleș Castle, Transfăgărăşan Road, Brașov, Voronet Monastery etc are best places. Sibiu is also most richest and beautiful city of Romania that you must see.

Mathias Rex by CameliaTWU, on Flickr
Mathias Rex

"Born in Cluj, Matei Corvin was the second son of the Romanian leader Iancu de Hunedoara, former king of Hungary, and Elisabeta Szilagy. The name “Corvin” derives from his heraldinc bearings, displaying a raven (corvus, in latin). Matei ruled Hungary between 1458, when he was made a king at the age of 15, until 1490. In 1485, he and his army reached Vienna, and established there the capital city of his kingdom.

The statue was designed by Fadrusz Janos, whose work of art won the Great prize of the Paris World Exhibition, in 1900. Unveiled in 1902, it was inaugurated as the statue of “Mathias, king of Hungary”. After the liberation of the country in 1944, its name was changed to “King Matei Corvin”, renamed by historian Daicoviciu, as Mathias Rex."

Matei Corvin Monument

Over the past few years, The Matei Corvin Monument has been considered the main meeting point of young people in the city. ”At the horse’s tail”, behind the statue the young people of Cluj Napoca meet, no matter if it's day or night.

Located in Unirii Square, the statue is surrounded by many old buildings dating from the 18th century, tourist attractions, places for fun, boulevards and pedestrian areas.

The Matei Corvin Monument impresses every tourist through its monumental stillness. It is located on the southern side of St. Michael Church. It is registered on the list of UNESCO’s memorial statues, occupying the 5th place.

Work of sculptor Ioan Fadrusz and architect Pakei Lajos, it won the Great Prize at the World Exposition from Paris in year 1900. The statue was revealed in 1902, in Unirii Square.

It was built as honour for the memorandum people, the Romanian-national faction of the nineteen Century, which were sentenced to the prison in the year 1894, for their ideals.
This monument is placed into the Unirii Square on the beginning of the Heroes Boulevard.
