My Manila X-Perience

Here are photos I took of Metro Manila, one of the most vibrant cities in Asia.

To start off this experience, lets first visit The Walled City of Intramuros.

Intramuros is the oldest district within The City of Manila. Meaning "within the walls" in Spanish, this district was considered as Manila's centre during Spain's colonization of The Philippines. The district served as the political, religious and military centre of the city. Inside were numerous cathedrals as well as the palace of the former viceroy and homes of former Spaniards living in Manila. Today, Intramuros is a major tourist attraction and home to The Manila Bulletin and some of the top universities in The Philippines.

Intramuros is just the beginning. There is a lot more to come!

Right across Intramuros past Luneta is the Ermita followed by Malate districts. They are a nightlife and entertainment hub within Manila. It is also a backpackers haven with cheap guest houses and affordable hotel catering to backpackers visiting the city from around the globe.

It is a 15-30 minute walk from Intramuros.

Scenes from Manila Bay and Baywalk. Fishing in these areas is popular especially on a Saturday morning where competitions are held.

Near Baywalk and right behind The Quirino Grandstand is the Manila Ocean Park. This is the first oceanarium and a major tourist attraction in Manila. Other than an oceanarium, it features a variety of restaurants and shops.

Photos taken late 2010.

Manila looks very interesting with everything from the old colonial style to ultramodern.

From the capital, we will take a trip downtown to Makati, the primary central business district of Metro Manila.

This is where the most of the HQ and regional offices of Philippine and foreign companies. It is also where the tallest buildings in the metro are located. Other than business, finance and trade, Makati is also a cultural and shopping hub of Metro Manila where most luxury brands are housed.

Haha, I was just about to ask you if Makati went dead at night (cause it looked like there weren't many restaurants/bars in the street pics), then I saw the night images and never mind.

Some of the best restaurants and bars in Metro Manila are located in Makati. The only thing is I have not taken pics of them since I'm more concentrated in taking photos of skyline, skyscrapers and street pics.

Before we leave Makati and head midtown, here is a shot of The Gramercy Residences.

The building just topped off and is still not finished. But this will be the tallest building in Metro Manila at 302 metres and 73 floors. It is located in Makati at the former ISM (International School Manila) grounds.

We are now in Midtown Metro Manila which is composed on the cities of Mandaluyong, San Juan and parts of Pasig. Inside is The Ortigas Center which is the 2nd largest central business district in Metro Manila both in area and in importance.

Before we head to the most vibrant areas of Midtown Metro Manila, lets drop by The Tivoli Gardens in Mandaluyong City and check out some views of Metro Manila from its rooftop.

A central hub of Midtown Metro Manila, Ortigas Center is the 2nd most important central business district in both area and importance. The CBD is home to some of the largest shopping malls in the metro including SM Megamall, Edsa Shangri-La and Robinson's Galleria. Right across is The Starmall for the lower middle-income market. Other than large shopping malls, Ortigas is also home to back offices of both local and foreign major companies, a second trading floor of The Philippine Stock Exchange as well as the headquarters of The San Miguel Corporation and The Asia Development Bank.
