From my side, just adding some pics from Belgrade Airport

The reconstruction process before the new air bridges were installed Now with the new air bridges it looks better.

Check in at BEG Terminal 2 has become crowded especially in the peak periods of the day. In the pic below you will see is the crowd easing as Aeroflot checked in passengers to Moscow, flyDubai for Dubai, Etihad for Abu Dhabi, Lufthansa for Munich, lets not to mention the open check in desk for Jat Airways....and the Qatar Airways flight to Doha was yet to open

The depressing look of the unrenovated section of the terminal in Belgrade. Soon should gates A6-A10 and C2-C6 be closed for a face lift.

The pics below show the fresh look of the newly renovated section

With Phase 1 complete, hopefully the change wont stop and more nice changes will come for the airport With the opening of 'Serbian House' and soon more shops like Victorias Secret, the travellers experience at BEG will only become better What is missing is some food outlets, and I think a nice touch would be a lovely Serbian bakery to open offering sandwhiches with lovely Serbian delicacies such as meats, ajvar, kajmak, perhaps some crepes serbian style, maybe some nice pasteries or cakes to accompany a coffee or drink before the departure

Belgrade Airport heading for new record
Belgrade anticipates record winter and record year

Belgrade Nikola Tesla Airport is heading for a second consecutive record breaking year as it handles over three million passengers in the first ten months of 2013. In October Serbia’s busiest airport welcomed 294.350 passengers, an increase of 6.8% compared to the same month last year. The surge in numbers was brought on primarily by foreign carriers with Jat Airways ending its 66 year run with similar monthly figures to last year. The airport’s numbers were further boosted by a significant increase in flight operations. A total of 3.998 flights were operated to and from the airport, an increase of 9.4% compared to last October.

Encouraging for the airport are trends showning its main customer, Air Serbia, has recorded an impressive surge in passenger numbers (compared to the same weekly period last year when flights were operated by Jat). During the winter season Belgrade Airport will see a handful of new routes. Air Serbia has already inaugurated services to Abu Dhabi, which will be followed by Banja Luka, Bucharest, Ljubljana and Prague in December. Furthermore, on December 2 B&H Airlines will launch flights from Sarajevo with details available here. Swiss International Air Lines will inaugurate its new Geneva service in mid December which will be followed by easyJet launching the exact same route on January 24, with further details here.

So far this year, Belgrade Nikola Tesla Airport has handled 3.024.850 passengers, an increase of 3.6% compared to the same period last year. The airport welcomed its third millionth passenger for the year on October 30, which is almost two weeks ahead of 2012. In a statement, the airport says it is anticipating a record winter season. “During the 22 week winter season period, 9.333 scheduled return flights will be operated, an increase of 38% compared to last year. This represents a never before seen surge in the number of flights with the biggest contribution coming from our national carrier Air Serbia, which will have an average of 200 departures per week from the airport, an increase of about 65% compared to the winter of 2012/13”.

Promising start for Air Serbia
Air Serbia begins fleet renewal tender process

Air Serbia has recorded a 12% passenger increase in its first week of operations as a rebranded airline and has seen an extreme surge in bookings as it looks to win back the trust of passengers lost during the final years of Jat Airways. However, it wasn’t all smooth sailing for the carrier as it had to deal with delays on many of its flights. In a press release the airline explains the delays have come down to its new catering offer. Flights are now taking much longer to stock with food and drinks due to a selection of several meal choices available on each flight while there is an inadequate number of catering trucks to serve all aircraft, many of which now depart at exactly the same time or in five minute intervals.

Despite some early hiccups, Air Serbia’s CEO, Dane Kondić, believes it is important for the airline to continue to grow. “It is important for us because we need to get this branch of the Serbian economy, air transport, growing again. That means providing more choices for our guests - flying where they want and when they want. So we are launching five new destinations this year, with another twelve coming in 2014. Our country and our people need this so we can all move ahead and keep pace with the rest of the world”. Mr. Kondić explains the airline has also been faced with opposition. “We no longer fly to Ataturk Airport in Istanbul as they wanted to secure better slots for their national airline so we were given a departure time of 02.50 in the morning. We want to be a profitable company and that means offering our guests timing which best suits them”.

This week the Serbian carrier is set to receive its third Airbus A319 aircraft. “It’s an exceptional aircraft but for Air Serbia it’s just the first step on our way towards the airline’s better future. An aircraft like this will allow us to modernise our fleet and expand our network and that’s just what we’ve done. Now we have made the first step, we are starting to look at the longer term. We’ve started a tender process for a major fleet expansion to introduce the latest Boeing, Airbus or Bombardier aircraft with deliveries starting in 2016. The A319s are great, but whichever aircraft we select for this second phase will be the most modern and state of the art on the market”, Mr. Kondić explains.

On October 29, the Jat brand officially ceased to exist as the Serbian Register Agency listed Air Serbia as Jat’s successor. “I think we should all respect the Jat brand as it has played an important part in the history of our nation and in the lives of many of our people. But the industry has changed and we need to evolve and grow new wings for our future flights. That’s why the time is right to welcome a new player into the national scene. Air Serbia is a brand, an airline and a concept that will play a key role in our country’s future”, CEO Kondić concludes.
