And why is that? Airlines are commercial companies not memorial walls. Thus naming an AA aircraft after LeBron James would be a far better PR stunt than calling it Benjamin Franklin. Naming aircraft after historic persons not related to aviation makes far less sense anyway.

The same goes for liveries, those special liveries are also commercial (I bet there was never a livery featuring Flemish old masters and you could call it cheap putting Mickey Mouse in front of Rubens)

Great news!

Quote:
Belgrade Nikola Tesla Airport expects to handle it millionth passenger of the year this Saturday, April 19. This if further good news this year, since the airport will handle it's millionth passenger a month earlier than last year. The airport has announced that it expects over 350.000 passengers in the month of August, which is a growth of 40% compared to last year. February 2013 was a bad month for the airport, since it declined six percent.

The significant rise in passenger numbers is due mostly to Air Serbia's rapid expansion in the previous months. The carrier may soon become too large for the airport, although the management at Nikola Tesla insists that all departments are functioning normally for now.

It seems that Belgrade fullfills a similar role for the Balkans as Frankfurt does for greater cental Europe. If this growth continues the next years, Belgrad is heading towards 10 million PAX (although I doubt it will)

Yes, that is the business model of Air Serbia, the main carrier at BEG. The airline offers great connections to much of South East Europe.

The airport will certainly grow for a few more years at least. I wouldn't be surprised if the airport hits 7.000.000 in 2020 (the airport has 3.550.000 right now)

@Singidium, I think that picture might be older.

Maybe BEG makes it into the top 100 airports in Europe this year.

7M seem low for some reason. We should be be able to squeeze very close to 5M this year already.

It is better to be conservative than make big predictions. Look at ZAG. I heard so many "Once CRO enters EU, ZAG will grow!", yet nothing happened. Yes, BEG is growing very fast right now, but we really don't know how much longer it will grow. We don't even know if JU will continue to expand. Perhaps they will stop at 10 Airbuses.
