I posted some other pictures this morning (Saturday 23rd June), see previous thread.

Went up to Shirley High St and Shirley park yesterday (Friday 22nd June), a dull overcast afternoon.

Luckily caught 67 Haslucks Green Road in the last of its death throes.

Below, when I got there about 2:30pm the house was like this:

Below, soon the digger began demolishing the house.

See how the digger gently grabs one of the roof beams and lifts it off, he then gently placed it in the pile of wood.

I was very impressed with the driver of the digger.

Below, he then lifted one whole section of the roof off in one go:

Below, eventually the roof went, and he began to demolish the upper floor.

See here he has got hold of a complete internal wall:

Below, gradually the upper floor goes, and he gently pulls the external walls into the empty "shell" of the house

Below, briefly the sun comes out, highlighting the dust in the air as the outer walls are demolished

Below, eventually the garage door comes off:

Below, then the front porch comes off:

Below, then the bay window goes, complete with net curtains:

Below, it is now 3:30pm, about an hour after I had arrived, and the house has almost totally gone.

As it was getting cold and dark I decided to leave, though there was very little left to demolish

Note this is only a few of the pictures I took of the demolition, I have about 45 in all.

Yes I saw that late yesterday afternoon, I wondered what it was.

As they are demolishing Westminster House soon, which has a lot of aerials and masts on the roof, I wonder if it will be a temporary thing until Asdas etc is built, when they can put the aerials/masts on top of that?

I note they have also begun to "move" the path through the park.

The existing tarmac path is right under where the development is going to go, so they are laying down a new path about 50 yards or so "in" to the park.

I took some pictures late yesterday evening but they are very dark, I may go up later today or tomorrow and get some better ones.

I've been in contact with Sue Maguire who is responsible for the PR on the Parkgate scheme. Initially I just wanted to see if she could provide us with more information about the development - plans, timelines etc... and make her aware of this forum and see if she would like to contribute - answer questions etc...

However she has actually suggested setting up a meeting/briefing for us with herself and someone from the developer. Can those interested in attending please PM me and I'll pass on your details to Sue.

I had a petition form through my letterbox regarding the state of the Powergen Building and urging something to be done. I was chatting to a neighbour when the fella came to collect it. He said the response had been tremendous and hopefully as this was a petition whereby the residents had to physically read, complete and return the form, and because Asda have said the building is unsafe - we will hopefully see some action and the demolition of the building.

Even if the land was just left rather being redeveloped, it would be better than having this monstrosity eyesore at the gateway to Shirley and overshadowing the new Parkgate development.

here's hoping. Sorry to stray off topic slightly.

Is the building really unsafe? Surely it is structrally sound but not properly secure? If this is the case Asda should be made to do something about it as they have deliberately left it to rack and ruin?

I would prefer the building to remain whilst the options for the site are considered, including potential reuses for the current building (hotel?). That's not to say I would object to it being demolished in order to facilitate a replacement scheme but rather I do not want another Five Ways Shopping Centre situation!

While I will continue to post most pictures of this project on my Facebook page, I will post the occasional picture here.

Facebook does not cope with panoramas very well (it shows them very small) so here is a large panorama showing the old car park (now closed) taken from near the British Legion building.

Wide picture so you will need to scroll across.

Picture taken today, on 12th July 2012.

I think you have got me in that first picture (I was up there this morning).

With my back to you and with the safari hat on and a green jumper.

They were unveliing the children's paintings that are on the white hoarding behind me in the first picture (they are covered up at this point).

Lots of people there from BAM, Solihull council, Shirley Advance, Local Councillors plus about 80 kids and many of their parents.

I have posted some pictures from this morning, of the paintings (and Westminster House) on my Facebook page.

Another huge panorama. Taken today (24th July 2012).

Scroll across to see it all.

On the far left (in the distance) you can see the land they have prepared for the foundations of one corner of the Asda store. This area has
been dug about 6 foot down then filled with harcore rubble then "rolled" flat.

On the far right you can see the last of the Betel shop as they demolish it, and Crown Buildings next door is not far off being demolished.

I have added more pictures to my Facebook page as well (see link above)
