No correlation doesn't mean that the facade cladding is safe though. They signed off on balcony panels that shatters. They could just as easily have signed off on facade cladding that shatters.

Well, I could have been run over by a phalanx of crazed naked bike riders on my way home tonight but luckily on both fronts it seems not to have happened!

I tend to lose trust in a company's competence in all areas when they mess up in one. When quality control is compromised, there's a good chance it happened in more than one area.

As a builder, you rely on your suppliers to provide you quality goods that meet all standards; there is no option for buying slightly dodgy glass at a reduced price. There was a defect in the product which lead to the glass breaking. I don't really see how the builder can be blamed for what is clearly a supplier deficiency.

This is the current state of the balconies at Murano.

Most of a car is produced off site at auto parts companies then the final product is assembled at the car plant. Auto companies put their brand name on the hood and its auto companies that bare the responsibility for making sure all the components meet certain standards. Same thing applies here. This developer put their name on the front of this building, but they didn't do their due diligence properly.

Any company providing a product should be accountable for what they are delivering to their customer.

As a customer, I have no contract with a supplier.

And a well run company does not leave these things to chance.

on second thought, it is pointless trying to second guess what happened when we really have no idea.

In business, hoping and praying that a company to whom you have out-sourced something does not screw up is entirely unacceptable. Everyone needs to be wholly responsible for the product that they move up the chain ... especially if we are talking about a business that has the job of handing it over to the final consumer. If a company does not put much emphasis on quality control, they are destined to fail. And quite deservedly so too.

Well, I imagine the whole case is under legal scrutiny at the moment, so we'll just have to wait and find out when the balcony glass does go up and also
we can get back to posting photos.

From what I've read they did static loading on this balcony glass but not dynamic. As an automotive test engineer I can tell you dynamic testing is far more difficult to quantify the results for parts unless you have empiric results to rely on and a robust test methodology that has been validated.
