Louis Philippe, a leader in the sylish formal, official and semi-formal occasion wear for men and a division of Madura Fashion and Lifestyle of the Aditya Birla Group, is planning to give focus more on Tier-II cities in the current fiscal as part of its brand expansion strategy besides expanding its footwear business, according to Jacob John, Brand Head.

Mr. John said Louis Philippe would increase it presence in Tier-II cities to 40-45 locations from the existing 22. More stores would be coming up in smaller cities such as Coimbatore, Tiruchi and Madurai.

Mr. John was here in connection with the opening of a store (10,000 sq. ft.) in Anna Nagar on Thursday. More stores would be opened this year, he said.

Making the most of Tiruchiites apparently growing fascination for ‘a woman's best friend,' branded jewellery retailer Tanishq, showcased its high-value exquisite diamond jewellery collection here to familiarise prospective customers with a range of sparklers.

The three-day exhibition at Tanishq Show Room, Fort station road, which concluded on Sunday, showcased a blend of traditional and contemporary designs to appeal to the sensibilities of the new Indian woman. Around 1000 designs worth Rs.60 crore with high craftsmanship and elegance as hallmarks dazzled visitors.

“The expo attracted many first time investors who had hitherto confined to gold as the sole option. These diamonds make for a lucrative investment as diamonds here are valued at the current market price,” said Annamalai, proprietor.

The “Hi-Value Diamond” jewellery range presented a variety of diamond cuts from conventional round shapes to fancy cuts like marquise, cushion, emerald, pear, oval, heart, trillion and radiant, said a press release issued here. A 20 per cent discount on a single product valued more than Rs.2 lakh was offered. The assortment included ear rings, bangles, rings, pendants and necklaces priced up to Rs.1 crore. The jewellery cache would be displayed at all major showrooms of Tanishq. While few pieces are available in the showroom, orders can be placed from the catalogue.

At the exhibition of educational DVDs, put together by Pebbles and Chennai-based Dove Multimedia, at Makkal Mandram in Thillai Nagar here, there was a wide range of DVDs and CDs that addressed a variety of subjects and topics.

Targeted at school students, the exhibition has digital material starting from the pre-school level up to standard XII.

There are nursery rhymes, stories for children in both English and Tamil, subject-oriented CDs and DVDs, Vedic Maths, Science and Maths Talent Olympiad preparatory packages from class II to XII, phonetics and encyclopaedias on display.

CDs and DVDs based on Samacheer Kalvi syllabus are available for students of classes I to XII, while separate sets are available for students of CBSE. Besides these, preparatory materials for all entrance and talent exams like AIEEE, GRE, GMAT, TOEFL and UPSC among others can also be bought at the exhibition.

Apart from curricular materials, there are other offerings for the general public which include software tutorials, video games, language learning CDs, spoken English and English grammar, group discussion techniques, yoga and fitness workout routines for adults and kids.

Also featured at the exhibition are imported CDs and DVDs from labels such as Discovery, National Geographic, BBC, Britannica and Websters. “The other labels on display here are available on 50 per cent discount, while the Pebbles CDs and DVDs are on 20 per cent discount for students,” said M. Swaminathan, Event Coordinator, Pebbles.

The exhibition is open till December 11 from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.
