Kanniga’s lilting voice and soulful rendition of a popular song touched the hearts of listeners as they were awed by the visually impaired girl’s talent and passion.

She was one among several differently abled youngsters who participated in Youth Fest 2013 organised by Team of Social Service (TOSS) at Bishop Heber College on Sunday.
The college auditorium was filled with enthusiastic participants above the age of 15, who danced, sang, drew pictures, and performed mono-acting with passion during the one-day cultural event.
The competitions were conducted at solo and group categories, and prizes were awarded to the winners.
Physically disabled, autistic, vision, hearing and speech impaired, and mentally challenged youth were the heroes and heroines of the day. Arivalayam, Asha Deepam, Holy Cross Service Society, Holy Cross Integrated, Santosh Special School, Dolphin Special School, Udaya Special School, Holy Cross College, and Bishop Heber College were the participating institutions.
Three differently abled persons, Hari Krishnan, revenue inspector, Tiruverumbur, M.Vivekanandhan, State secretary, Public Voice, and Marikannan from district differently abled development association motivated the youngsters by sharing their experiences at the valediction.
Mr. Hari Krishnan said, “We should create a different society, one that welcomes differently abled with open arms and encourages them to leave a mark.”
He also quoted instances from the lives of famous personalities, who were disabled, but created a name for themselves such as Helen Keller and Sudha Chandran.
“Every differently abled person has the power to create history. We are all the eighth wonders of the world,” said Mr. Vivekanandhan asking youth to never lose hope.
Sai Prashanth, president, TOSS, and Shamshir Hussain, vice president, TOSS, along with the members of TOSS were present

I got news from a trusted source that maris Maxi which also has around 500 seats is going to open now and the complex will get a new look with 3 screens ,a 5D theatre and a gaming zone with a food court. (Can expect some big brands like Subway, Mcd,KFC,Pizza hut to enter the complex).

Also femina hyper mall is a proper mall opening on Diwali.

So people are getting good hangout places other than Manghalam towers.

German Toy Maker Simba Toys to open store in Trichy soon

Simba Toys to open 27 stores by DecPlans to grow at close to 50% for the next couple of years

Simba Toys India, one of the 26 subsidiaries of German toys manufacturer Simba Dickie Group, is planning to up its ante in the Indian toys industry by opening around 27 standalone stores in the country by the end of this December, according to Shree Narayan Sabharwal, business head (India).

The over $800-million company had entered the Indian toys retailing space in 2011 through the master franchisee route in tie-up with Exelixi Management Company. It runs 17 stores across the country, including three in Bangalore and one in Chennai, besides an outlet at the Mumbai domestic airport. The company markets over 6,500 stock-keeping units in India with the price ranging from Rs 99 to Rs 80,000.

“We have already identified over 40 cities in India that we want to enter in Phase-I, including Hyderabad, Trichy, Coimbatore, Kochi and Mysore, with each outlet consisting of a carpet area of around 1,000 sft. Our idea is to have around 100 stores in the country by the end of the 2014 calendar,” he said.

Stating that the Indian toys market was currently pegged at Rs 3,000 crore with the organised sector accounting for Rs 600 crore of this, Sabharwal said the industry, which grew at a healthy rate of 18-20 per cent until last year, was now growing at only 12-15 per cent owing to the macro-economic environment.

On the back of scaling up its retail presence, coupled with the ongoing talks with animation companies for India-specific properties for merchandising, he said Simba was planning to grow by close to 50 per cent in India for the next couple of years.

It was raining outside but none of the audience could peep their head out to have a glimpse of the intensity of showers.

For, they were caught in such rapt attention through a dance performance on ‘Jagado Dharana....’

Music lovers and Carnatic musicians in Tiruchi city quenched their thirst for professional performance, courtesy a five-day festival currently in progress at the National College.

The 'Soorya Festival', though a maiden celebration in the city, has gone down well with the music lovers, going by the overcrowding at the auditorium of the college. “This is the first time that the festival is being organised in Tiruchi and the response to it is quite encouraging and overwhelming', says K. Prakash, and R. M. Natarajan, Tiruchi Chapter Convenors of the Soorya Festival.

The programme, jointly organised by the Rotary Club of Cauvery and Innerwheel Club of Tiruchi presents a bouquet of performance and it has been so mixed that both senior artistes and vidwans and young professionals participating in it. The inaugural session commenced on Monday with Bharatanatyam dance recital by Ramya Vaidyanathan; followed by Neyveli Santhanagopalan's vocal concert; Hindustani vocal by Manjari; and Bharatanatyam dance recital by Sanjana and Deepti on Thursday.
