In it's overall concept probably the closest design in Europe to the great American stations of the early 20th c. An amazing building.

The oldest still existing station building in Italy, in Milan.
Built in 1840, but only in use for 10 years. The station was discontinued in 1850

Oslo, like so many cities, started off with an eastern and western end station (terminus). Bear in mind that in the late 19th century, Norway was still quite poor and scarcely populated, so east and west station weren’t huge train cathedrals, but I still think they were quite beautiful.

Station serving eastern part of the country:

Station serving western part:

Eventually though, as train traffic in Norway grew larger than the old infrastructure, and it became too unpractical to ship thousands of travellers with all their luggage between the terminus, they decided to build a tunnel under the city and open a central station. The west terminus was closed, and they built this ugly central station next to the old east station:

The main entrance hall for the west station was kept and eventually became a museum:

In the future, a new national gallery will be built around the west station:

Most of the ugly central station will be redesigned in a form that compliments the old east station a lot better:

Gare du Havre -France-

Ancienne Gare du Havre

Nouvelle Gare du Havre

Cependant, l'arričre de la Gare est resté comme celle des années 1900

Des cartes sont censés représenter les monuments de la ville, et le département... Les bombardements et les destructions sont passés, mes les cartes sont restés.
