MONTERREY | Complejo VAO | 265m | 61 fl | 150m | 37 fl | 100m+ | 27 fl | U/C

This thread intends to show the development of a mixed-use complex of highrises in Monterrey, Mexico (more specifically in Valle Oriente area in the metropolitan city of San Pedro Garza Garcia). Originally, it was designed to be a single building of 180-200 meters high in 2007. However, due to opposition to its original location by its future neighbors, it was moved to a new location at the same time the original plan grew to include two additional towers plus a smaller office builiding and a lofts small tower, totalizing five buildings.

Here, the first renders published back to 2007:

The following pics show the most recent render available. The buildings have been modified several times. For example, the third tallest tower, called "Liu West" was originally going to be 20 stories high, later it was modified to 24 and finally it reached 27 stories high and more than 100m. The second tallest (called Liu East) has been upgraded from 25 to 37 stories above ground level (plus 9 underground) and a final height of 150 m. The tallest's final height is still unknown, but rumors say it will start construction at the end of next year (2012).

So far, one building is finished ("VAO Oficinas", the small office tower). One more shows a great progress and has already been topped out (Liu West) and one more is U/C, already beyond ground level (Liu East).

Here, some renders showing some of the originally planned complex indoors:

Not specially 'beautiful' nor shocking, but it's height will make it become an instant landmark for MTY. The views from there, in the other hand, will be amazing.

I'm glad they're definitively putting their money on skyscrapers, an important city needs that kind of buildings.

Thanks for your comment, Ekumenopolis... I think the best is still to come once the tallest tower be built, hopefully will start at the end of next year. It intends to mimic a Quartz gem.

Thanks for sharing RegioManio,

So far, the first tower reached its max. height and it was taller than expected, luckily the main tower will be well above 200mts.

Lots of cool projects currently u/c in the city but I guess this is my favorite project after Sofia Tower.

This a great addition to Monterrey's skyline! I couldn't think of a more perfect location for a city than Monterry's position. The mountains being right there.
