Interesting they put some brands under one roof (e.g. Dacia, Renault) but other separately (e.g. Seat, Skoda, Audi, Volkswagen, etc)

New passenger car registrations, January to August 2011, for the European Union and Efta (Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway and Switzerland) came out today:

1. Volkswagen 1 131 750 units (+7,9% compared to same period 2010)
2. Renault 702 566 (-10,4%)
3. Opel/Vauxhall 675 502 (+2,2%)
4. Peugeot 644 134 (-6,7%)
5. Citroën 538 833 (-7,1%)
6. Fiat 481826 (-18,2%)
7. Audi 456560 (+9,2%)

All together new registrations (9 190 009 units) are down -1,1% compared to last year, but with huge variations around Europe:

Had no idea Renault was that popular throughout Europe! Only one non-European make on the top 10, not counting GM/Opel.

This very much shows at what stage of the credit crunch European countries currently are in. The Baltics and Iceland were affected early on and have now restored consumer confidence. The economies of above Mediterranean countries have unfortunately not been doing so well during the past year...
