Not just comment but post pictures if ever. Maybe we can ask Sinjin if he saw any construction activities in the airport. I just hope they are so that we'd see A320's and of course, cheaper fares for us.

Wow, the new terminal looks very nice! Just got back a couple of days ago from Boracay via Kalibo Airport. That one looks shabby in comparison to this one.

Honestly, I really have no plans of visiting the island. Comparing it before (10 years ago) and now. But the airport would be fantastic. But, after landing in there what then will I do? hehehe. I would love to feature more travel vids. Just let me finish college and I'll feature more air travel vids as best as I can. I would even just love to stay in airports rather than travelling the city/town in it.

The bald area at the upper side of the picture is I think the Alphaland project.
Runway extension is not started yet.

Alphalang actually pioneered a development project in Caticlan and not in the overcrowded Boracay Island? That's a welcome development! As I said in the Aklan Main Thread, these companies should look into putting up projects in the Ibajay-Nabas part of the Panay-Aklan mainland for the beaches there are also white and beautiful. These places could serve as a "Boracay Annex".

Geographically that area is between Caticlan and Brgy Union in the municipality of Nabas.

If Alphaland is planning a resort complex what a place to set it up. Right next to the airport. Now who wants to spend vacation right next to a loud and busy airport ? Whatever it will be, it´s much too close to an airport. Always the same mistakes, soon no room for expansion due to urban miss planning. I wonder if anyone will ever learn from mistakes made in the past. Loos at NAIA. No runway expansion possible without relocation and tremendous costs.

casino pwede o mall, di naman maririnig sa loob ng mall ang ingay, sa resorts world isang magandang example, maingay din sa loob kayat wala ng ingay na maririnig

Yeah, this is what sad there in the Philippines, no good urban planning. For them, as long as there is a new investment regardless on where the investors chose the location, there is no government agencies that would oversee all these planning. It's like the "maski papaano" all the time as long as the country has this and that project. They don't look further ahead on what impact it would create not just to the environment but what possible disadvantages it would cause . I guess the flash of dollar signs are the first thing some government officials would always see so they miss alot of things such as details and all.

It is hard for them to flattened those hills for another runway(if in case) beside the current airport. Kalibo International Airport is there as an alternate gateway.

Question, why do we have two airports serving Boracay - caticlan and kalibo? Isn't that costly

Very good question. This is one good example on what I've mentioned in another thread. The one that you mentioned short term solution with big budget? Well, besides that big budget thingy, its more on that short term solution. Poor infrastructure planning.

Caticlan Airport can not accomodate big planes, only propeller planes used the airport because of its short runway(900 meters). At one end of the runway is a hill and belongs to another municipality(Nabas). Those where the reasons why it can hardly to expand then Kalibo Airport opened(1.5Hrs from Caticlan) which now can accomodate big planes. Kalibo is the capital of Aklan and the provincial government preferred to develop Kalibo Airport to become International Airport because of its enough area and to help boost its economy as well. But the distance between Kalibo and caticlan is not recommended by some resorts in Boracay. Now San Miguel bought Caticlan Airport and planned to expand it, the provincial government now had no power to resist it.

Yes I agree it is poor planned on the government side before San Miguel came in.

Kasi pang short term naman talaga ang terminal na yan. Hindi pwedeng sirain nila yan to build a new one while sheltering passengers in nipa huts. Its good they renovated it so that Caticlan have a more decent terminal for now. A way bigger terminal with aerobridges will be built once the runway is extended to 2,500m w/ brand new navigational equipment. Look at the rendering in the first page.
