Kolkata is not a low intensity zone anymore. The sudden unrest of the Himalayan plates (which was the cause yesterday) can be a good warning for future.
Kolkata's current rating is 3/5 in seismic level, a 'moderate' rating.

I thought whole Bengal and eastern India is always in high seismic level. Though the region did not see any massive earth quake in recent times..

Three IT hubs on table

Durgapur, Sept. 20: The government plans to set up three IT hubs in south Bengal with the possible participation of companies like Infosys and Wipro, industries minister Partha Chatterjee said today.

“The government has decided to set up three IT hubs in Burdwan’s Asansol and Durgapur and Bankura’s Borjora,” Chatterjee said at a meeting of local industrialists in Durgapur.

He also urged the industrialists to take over at least one closed factory while setting up new ventures in the state. “Around 55,000 big, medium and small factories are closed in Bengal. So, I would urge the industrialists who wants to set up new plants in Bengal to take responsibility of at least one closed factory,” he said.

Chatterjee said land would not be a problem. “We are preparing a land bank with the help of those people willing to give up their barren plots in backward areas like Purulia, Bankura, West Midnapore and some north Bengal districts. The details of such plots will be put up on our websites for industrialists to choose,” he said. Land can also be purchased directly, he added.
