Air Nigeria Plans to Boost Dominance on Regional Routes
Nigeria Bulletin

In its bid to further reinforce dominance in the African market, Air Nigeria is set to extend its route coverage to Freetown in Sierra Leone and Kinshasa in the Democratic Republic of Congo as well as improving connectivity between all existing 10 regional destinations by introducing new sectors and increased frequencies across existing routes.

The scheduled commencement of the Freetown and Kinshasa routes as well as the increased frequencies on the regional routes –Accra & Douala will be effective from early November. It is geared towards making air transport more accessible by developing new routes and linking them to the existing routes network to better serve the demands of passengers.

Air Nigeria currently has an established route network that provides convenient connections for domestic, regional and international passengers and its drive to make Accra a mini-hub for flights around the West African region, and Cotonou for flights to the Central African region, will further make it an airline of choice for air travellers in Africa and beyond. Whilst it offers seamless connectivity in the regional and domestic routes, it is also able to connect onwards via interline agreements with various airlines and its codeshare partnership with Delta Airlines and Kenya Airways.

The commencement of the new routes is coming just after it introduced twice weekly flights to Sao Tome & Principe and took delivery of an additional Boeing 737-400 series aircraft which brings its fleet size to 11. With the introduction of the new flights to Freetown and Kinshasa, Air Nigeria will have presence across 12 countries in the West and Central African region.

Similarly, Air Nigeria has reiterated its plans to recommence international operations to London Gatwick just as the Companies House in London, the United Kingdom Registrar of Companies has duly incorporated the new name of the airline by accepting and hosting it on its registry.

With the incorporation of the Air Nigeria Development Limited tradename in the UK, the airline is expediting preparation to resume flights to London in the near future.

That was it's last ever flight in Arik Air livery.
It landed in Hamburg in order to be repainted for Royal Jordanian.

Here's why:

you don't pay for aircraft, you don't get to keep them...

Nigerian registered airlines must join IATA – Oduah
Vanguard

It is now mandatory for all Nigerian registered airlines to join the clearing house of the International Air Transport Association(IATA).

The Minister of Aviation, Princess Stella Adaeze Oduah has directed while briefing journalists in Abuja in commemoration of the 100 days of the President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan’s administration.

This directive, She explained was aimed at sanitizing the air transport business and ensure transparency in all their financial transactions coupled with ensuring seamless interlining of travelers with world renowned carriers.

According to her, in charting a new vision for the industry, the Ministry has developed initiatives to enhance growth in the aviation industry by:” Mandating all airlines to join IATA platform in the revenue collection process and enable inter-airline ticket endorsement."

Airline members of IATA enjoy the support of an internationally renowned organization that represents leads and serves one of the most dynamic industries in the world.

From 57 founding members in 1945, IATA now represents some 238 airlines in over 115 countries from around the globe. Carrying 93% of the world’s international scheduled traffic, IATA members include the world’s leading passenger and cargo airlines.

She further noted that IATA membership is open to airlines operating both scheduled and non-scheduled services that covers two categories ranging from active membership and associate membership.

Mrs. Oduah noted that active membership are for airlines operating either international services or international and domestic services while that of associate membership are for airlines for airlines operating domestic services only adding that the IATA Operational Safety Audit (IOSA) is a pre-requisite of IATA membership.

To assist the airlines in the area of high operational cost, the Minister said the Ministry has intervened by setting up a committee to look into the scarcity of aviation fuel and how it could be procured at affordable price to lower the cost of operations and the air fares being charged.

On the issue of Concessions entered into by the Ministry/Agencies of Government with some companies, Princess Oduah said the Ministry was set to review all of them in favour of the people and Government of Nigeria, adding that,:” You enter into concession where you do not have the skilled manpower so that it can be beneficial to you.

But in the case of concession entered into with this companies the reverse is the case. Nigerian government must benefit from the concessions and improve the revenue base”

She said the Ministry in conjunction with various were pursuing the redemption of huge debts owed by airlines and that henceforth there would be no room for accumulation of debts with tha introduction of electronic system of payment.

She further disclosed that the recertification of pilots, engineers and Aircraft Maintenance Organizations (AMO) was being embarked upon in line with standard aviation procedures so as to improve on safety.

Arik Air becomes third airline in the world to order Boeing 747-8 Intercontinental

Nigeria’s Arik Air has ordered two Boeing 747-8 Intercontinental airliners, Boeing announced Thursday. The order makes Arik the first 747-8 customer in Africa and third worldwide for the passenger version, after Lufthansa and Korean air.

Boeing previously attributed the order to an unidentified customer on its orders website. It is worth $635 million at list prices, although customers get substantial discounts.
747-8

“Air travel within the region continues to grow at a rapid pace and we must prepare our fleet to accommodate that growth,” Arik owner and Chairman JIA Arumemi-Johnson said in a news release. “Boeing’s new 747-8 fits perfectly into our long-term planning. It brings the best operating economics for its size, which is important with the increase in fuel prices.”

The order was announced during a signing ceremony at the Corporate Council for Africa’s 8th Biennial U.S.-Africa Business Summit in Washington, D.C.

Boeing is scheduled to deliver the first 747-8 Freighter to launch Customer Cargolux later this month, pending approval of a deal between Cargolux and engine-maker GE over shortcomings with the engine, the first 747-8 Intercontinental to a private customer later this year and the first airline 747-8 Intercontinental to Lufthansa early next year.

Boeing now had orders for 111 747-8s, including 36 Intercontinentals.

I believe it's only one terminal, not the whole airport?

And are there any expansions plans to fit rapidly growing Arik Air's long-haul fleet?
