Reconstructions are always possible.

There's room for modern ego trips elsewhere, but please don't take away the dignity of our historical buildings, thanks.

Actually, I find this Belgrade example one of the rare cases where this kind of "modernizations" isn't that bad. It seems like these are two separate buildings and not one.

There is an apartment building under construction right now in my city that is preserving the facade into the new building.

Here's a picture from yesterday.

That's how such renovations should be done, amazing job!

Another great example is complex of The Gasometers in Vienna, built at the end of the 19th century and amazingly renovated/revitalized about a decade ago.

Wonderful... What have the docks been reconverted into?

The docks in Marseille are now a business centre... But they do not belong here, as they were in good shape and didn't need any reconstruction as far as I know.

These Docks were transformed into offices and the enlargement (steel with touches of green color) is housing.

There are also Docks which were reconverted to shopping mall in Le Havre, it is the Docks Vauban.

Love those Vienna gasometers and Le Havre docks.

In many northern English cities old cotton mills and warehouses have been modernised and turned into apartment blocks or retail developments. I'll find some photos...

I have to say that I don't like most of the examples shown here.
I don't know, but I feel that if the architecture is better, it somehow blends better with the older building, even if it breaks completely with it.
I like this example in Frankfurt, Goetheplats 4.
It has nothing to do with the old building, but as the architecture of the newer building has more architectural details, as the older one has, I feel that they blend better together, that if it had been just a plain curtainwall, as some examples shown here.
Anyway, I still believe it could have been better if some architectonic elements of the older building were used. For example continuing or somehow making a gesture to the third floor cornice, which is a strong architectural element of the older building.

As a bonus, this one showing Commerzbank Tower in the background, The old/new building is still visible at the left side of the picture.

As usual you piss on what other people post and you treat them in condescending manner and when they ask you if their architectural examples are bad, could you please share with them what is good, your response is that you don't have time for these trinkets. But you always had time to make countless disparaging posts prior.
