Liverpool: the world in one city.
I'd like to start this thread to display a range of photographs of all things representative of the Liverpool cityscape - urban and suburban.
I have called it 'The World in one City' because I intend for it to be a varied and eclectic collection of a range of images and aspects of life in the city: from large scale cityscapes to civic & domestic architectural detail, and of the life of its citizens and visitors. Liverpool is in the north-west of England. The River Mersey is the reason for its pre-eminence as a port. Liverpool was considered the second city of the British Empire in The 19C - hence its monumental architecture. Liverpool sits on The Irish Sea, and, traditionally, has very close links with Ireland. The city was the embarkation point for emigrants to the new world - as well as the destination for immigrants from many other parts of the world. After years of decline & turbulence, Liverpool's fortunes are looking upwards again. In the last decade there has been a resurgence - with new developments along with regeneration of old buildings. There is still some way to go - but the momentum has now reached a critical level which feels unstoppable in its surge.
