Thanks for your wonderful pictures. I have a particular interest in Liverpool because my ancestors came from Liverpool to St. Louis. They departed by ship, landed in New Orleans, then took a boat up the Mississippi River to St. Louis in the 1800s.

Your story is a common one. I was staying at a B&B in Santa Cruz, California, a few years ago.

The couple who ran the B&B were a great couple from L.A. One morning at breakfast, Dale, the owner, brought out a painting of the Liverpool waterfront in the 1700s. It hung in his sitting room. It turned out both he, and Sitah, his wife, both had direct Liverpool connections via grandparents.

Liverpool was, as you know, the departure point for so many emigrants to the 'New World' - as well as the entrance point for many refugees and immigrants.

Liverpool has a varied and, often, magnificent housing stock. A lot of the Georgian and Victorian homes would, originally, have belonged to great merchant families, such as the Tates (sugar), the Rathbones, etc. these homes are spread out around the city - both in the central district and in the suburbs.
