Inside Marina City

Friend of mine, who is also an architect and a neighbor, did a project in which he photographed many interiors of the famous Marina City building. The photo's will be on display in the Art Institute in Chicago, or can be seen here: http://www.insidemarinacity.com/. Interesting to see how different kind of interiors you bump into in the same building!

This is quite an interesting exercise. If you look at the ads for skyscraper apartments, you always see these hip youngsters with ditto interiors. In real life you'll find all sorts of styles. Especially some of the older couples have accumulated furniture in all sorts of design ages and tend to drag all that with them to the new place.

Marina City was built in the early 60's and I think it's a great example of 60's architecture. 60's stuff is a great style to work with, but unfortunately the condo association hasn't got a clue what proper design is. Shared spaces inside the building could be so much better if you knew what you were doing design-wise.
