Jerusalem approves light rail Blue Line
Monday, February 01, 2016

THE start of construction on Jerusalem's third light rail line moved a step closer on January 28, when the Municipal Planning Committee granted approval for the Blue Line, which will link Gilo in the south with Ramot in the north

The 20.3km line will include an underground section in the city centre with three sub-surface stations at Mea Shearim, Tzfania, and Bar Ilan. The plans also include a link to the existing Red Line and an option for a branch along Hebron Road

JERUSALEM's district council has approved the alignment of the 19.6km Green Line, the Israeli capital's second light rail line

On Shabbat there is no public transport in Israel at all, besides some private bus lines like Shabbus and Yambus, and the shared taxis.

Lightrail, Brt, Trains etc stop operating on friday night until saturday night. So they wont have to close the Mea Shearim Station anyway.

That is such a random thing to do. What exactly makes public transport so much worse are less acceptable than letting Shabbus etc drive around? And what about private cars?

To me this just sounds like an interpretation of customs or beliefs which end up putting PT at a disadvantage towards private cars.
