Midwest will add flight from KC to Seattle

Midwest Airlines will add its first round-trip flight from Kansas City International Airport to Seattle/Tacoma International Airport starting April 1.

The flight is scheduled to leave KCI at 9:45 a.m. daily and arrive in Seattle at 11:20 a.m. The return flight is scheduled to leave Seattle at noon and arrive at KCI at 5:21 p.m.

The airline said in a release Tuesday that the new service is part of its previously announced long-term business plan, which includes route expansion and equipment upgrades featuring at least six new destinations and as many as 12 new routes in 2007.

The nonstop flights will operate as Midwest Airlines Signature Service on the airline's new Boeing 717.

Southwest Airlines is the only other airline at KCI that has nonstop service to Seattle, which it started Feb. 5, 1999, Kansas City Aviation Department spokesman Joe McBride said.

Midwest Airlines is a subsidiary of Midwest Air Group Inc. (AMEX: MEH) of Oak Creek, Wis., which is facing a hostile takeover bid from low-fare carrier AirTran Holdings Inc. (NYSE: AAI) of Orlando, Fla. AirTran made a $345 million exchange offer Jan. 11 for all of Midwest's shares. Midwest said it is reviewing the offer, and its response is expected this week.

New Air France Paris- Seattle Flight

Air France links Paris to Seattle
21 February 2007
A new link between Paris and Seattle has been established by Air France, making it the 13th US gateway currently offered by the airline.

The company says that the opening of the Seattle gateway means that it has the north-west market covered for the first time.

A non-stop flight will link the two regions, with Air France confirming that the first flight will take place on 11 June 2007.

'We are pleased to add Seattle as our newest gateway,' said Air France vice president Marie-Joseph Male.

'Seattle is home to many leaders in the aerospace, biotechnology, computer technology and manufacturing industries, among others.

'We are confident that both the business community and the diverse international population in the Seattle area will benefit from our extensive global network and enjoy the exceptional travel experience Air France offers its passengers,' he added.

The service will incorporate one flight per day in both directions, linking Paris-Charles de Gaulle airport and Seattle.

Air France is also advertising the route as a possible link to other regions of the world, allowing passengers to take advantage of its extensive links to Europe, Asia, the Middle East and Africa.

Is there a flight to Vancouver now? How much does YVR's proximity to SEA reduce the need for overseas flights to SEA?

There is no direct flight from Vancouver to Paris... However Vancouver does get a lot more international air traffic then Seattle... However Seattle has directs to London, Copenhagen, Amsterdam, Moscow, Paris, Taipei, Tokyo, Seoul, and a bunch of cities in Mexico. It is quite international compared to other US cities of its size...

Sea-Tac's recent renovations

This airport has always been somewhat compact and smallish, but the recent renovations have really opened it up. The main terminal has been completely rebuilt with large retail/food areas and huge floor to ceiling windows for viewing of almost all takeoffs and landings.

Concourse A has been completely rebuilt and is spectacular.

Sea-Tac's third runway has been a long time coming, (I think first proposed in the early 90's), but after lawsuits and challenges is finally on its way to completion in late 2008 or 2009.

A new light rail connection is coming, and future upgrades to other concourses are on the way as well.

This airport is an important destination and connecting point for many heading to smaller NW cities and Alaska. Good to see the Port of Seattle is keeping up with the growth with a beautiful, modern facility.

Not yet which is a pity, because the International terminal is quite old fashion, but there are plans to remodel them!!! Also they are thinking of building a whole new terminal by 2020.

I really like the pacific marketplace, I sit there sipping my coffee, eating my breakfast burrito watching the planes taxi. Fantastic way to wait for my flight.

Guinessbeer, when I started this thread I hoped someone would add some pictures. Thanks, they are great!

Airports today have lost a lot of their glamor. Sea-Tac seems to have brought back some of it! (Perhaps, fitting, in the hometown of Boeing.)
But, if you still enjoy the pure magic of commercial aviation, Sea-Tac is now one of the best in the U.S.! (If you can get through the parking garage and security in a reasonable time! )
