Arroyo govt to scrap EDSA repair project By DARWIN G. AMOJELAR, The Manila Times Reporter Motorists using the EDSA may have to bear with the potholes and craters along the Philippine capital’s main thoroughfare, as the Arroyo administration wants to cancel a road rehabilitation project funded by the Asian Development Bank (ADB) to cut down on commitment fees the government has to pay for unused funds set aside by the lender. The planned cancellation is contained in a document obtained from the National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA). The project involves the maintenance and repairs of the EDSA running from Buendia Avenue in Makati City to the Kamias-Kamuning intersection in Quezon City. The document said that as of May 2005, the government paid some $2.07 million in commitments fees to the ADB for holding the undisbursed balance of $71 million. In a letter dated September 14, 2005, Public Works Secretary Hermogenes Ebdane advised NEDA Director-General Augusto B. Santos to cancel the EDSA rehabilitation project under the Road Rehabilitation Component of the ADB-assisted Metro Manila Air Quality Improvement Sector Development Program. The project was approved by the NEDA-Investment Coordinating Committee in October 1998 with an original design of asphalt overlay. But then-public works secretary Bayani Fernando changed the design to concrete reblocking. The ADB, in a letter to the government dated June 1, 2004, however, said it won’t finance the component unless the original design of asphalt overlay was adopted.

Very bad news, indeed. Doesnt she realise that repairing EDSA will save lots of money in the long run by increasing productivity, etc.

WOah. Nice views of EDSA....
Which reminds me, traffic was clogged today due to MMDA people painting gutters of the highway. Imagine closing one lane... darn. Lunchtime was bad. Regarding the gutter paint, I find this wierd and hope they pour the paint on non-existent lane markings at multiple points (without lanes) para decent naman ang road and to promote lane discipline among motorists. I hope they seal-off lanes which were not being used anymore like left turn lanes which have no-left turn signs. These extra lanes are being used by darn drivers who weave in and out of traffic causing a jam at the end cause they have to make singit sa main thru traffic lanes. Imagine you all in a single line when a car suddenly zooms on your left side and singits himself. kaiinis. Magallanes interchange is still a mess. Hope they open the closed Southbound Osmena to EDSA northbound access. You have to make a big turn pa at magallanes village to go to EDSA. If their main reason was to discourage volume from Osmena to pour into EDSA, well they fail cause motorists will find ways to do this.

damn! now thats heavy traffic...but the good thing i see from it is that people are staying in their lanes and the buses are on the correct rightmost lane
And that flyover's road surface is really good. Thats how the whole stretch of EDSA should be. The lanes are also nicely painted. Thanks for the pics, dudz |

Dudz, Thanks for the pictures! I like the way you presented them from day time to night time free flowing to heavy traffic jam!
I wouldn't want to be caught in that traffic, though. |

Awesome pics dudz, now I know why there are a lot of billboards on EDSA. You can look at them for hours in traffic! Especially when you have nothing better to do.
