Small victories! |

yeah.. but noticing lately the cadena de amors on the center of EDSA... they are now dying.... they are not as lush as before... this must be attributed by the hot weather and hot smoke belches that they receive...

MMDA stands for the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority.

If anybody's don't mind can give me a concrete answer, why did the the MRT in Edsa was like a roller coaster ride instead of constructing a fixed elevated level of train track that can maximize road occupancy and wide vision of Edsa road lanes. I am really wondering, is there any obstruction for this concept or financial constraints?

This was discussed widely before during and before its construction. The engineers noted that the MRT line itself is running at zero grade with some minor grades along the way... It seems MRT is a rollercoaster ride but the one "moving up and own" is the EDSA roadway as prominently evident at.... Santolan to Guadalupe area

Federal...what does zero grade mean? I'm sorry i don't know the technicalities of MRT.
Anyway...the track is a bit of constant height from North Avenue to Annapolis. Some variations as it approaches Ortigas and Shaw. Maybe to align with the existing flyovers at EDSA-Ortigas. I can't see any reason why it has to go down again at Boni, then up at Guadalupe, to make it levelled with the Bridge over Pasig River. Somebody has posted here before saying that the rich occupants of these hi-end villages near EDSA Makati didn't want to suffer all the noise coming from the trains/tracks. That's why MRT plunges down at Buendia and Makati Stations. However, it can't go underground till Magallanes station since there's a complicated interchage at EDSA-SLEX. so you must notice that the platform is very very high. But that's already is on a congested area and at the edge of these wealthy villages. They probably wouldn't mind hearing the noice anymore. |

I think "zero grade" means that it's flat with no incline whatsoever.

and for the record, the design of MRT3 became zero grade because of cost-cutting measures to increase the money flow into the pockets of some
I'm speculating of course, dont ask for a source cos i dont have one. It would have been great if the whole line was above-grade (except Ayala and Buendia), thus more traffic lanes for EDSA.

Now now GreyX, more traffic lanes is not the solution. Such solutions are often cited as the only solution to traffic by idiots like a certain jackass BC Transport Minister that you should be familiar with.
![]() The EDSA MRT is fine at places where it is at and needs to be rightfully extended in a seamless manner to LRT1 in Monumento. Overall, tt serves its purpose well and truly give people an alternative to cars.

Well, one or two extra lanes on both sides wouldn't hurt. Plus a totally acess-controlling EDSA with interchanges.

extra lanes would do good. There are 20 million people in metro manila and 10 million cars. Wages are cheap so public utilities drivers are always driving like there's no tomorrow just to make money.

MRT did not take away lanes. The at grade portions of it were originally medians to begin with, not traffic lanes. The fact that they were medians is why at grade was feasible for those particular portions of the route, hence why this provided an opportunity to keep the costs down (otherwise, it would have been elevated since taking away existing lanes is unacceptable in Metro Manila...).
