Minneapolis- A Walk Down Nicollet Mall

Minneapolis' famed Nicollet Mall on a cool Thursday afternoon in September. PART 1

A collection of plaques with poetry created by local residents dot the Mall on the north end:

Starting from the south end of the mile-long mall and working my way northward. The first few pics are badly color-balanced - I didn't realize my camera wasn't set for daylighting...

A Paul Granlund sculpture in front of Westminster Church:

Fountains at Peavey Plaza.

The Minnesota Orchestra's Hall will be getting a new lobby next year:

On Thursdays there is a Farmer's Market set up along the Mall:

The very popular (and authentic) Brit's Pub:

Target Stores' Headquarters:

An evening shot of the main entrance:

The Dakota Jazz Club:

PART 2

Here we are near the mid-point of the Nicollet Mall, at Philip Johnson's IDS Tower on the right, and Cesar Pelli's Wells Fargo Tower on the left.

Coming up on the City Center complex, by SOM:

The Dorsey Whitney building:

The double skyway and Pei, Cobb, Freed's 225 South Sixth (now Capella Tower) in the background:

The LRT Station at 5th & Nicollet Mall:

The Hennepin County Central Library, also designed by Cesar Pelli:

PART 3 - The northern end of the Mall is much quieter..

Street furniture at the north end of the Mall:

Landscaping along the Library:

The former US Federal Reserve Bank building by Gunnar Birkerts:

The ING Building, designed by Minoru Yamasaki. This building is at the northern terminus of the mall, and was the last building Yamasaki did before he designed the World Trade Center in New York:

Nice thread. I find most 60s modernism to be underwhelming but Yamasaki's ING building is one of the few pieces that I absoulutely love. It reminds me of a modernist Parthenon.

Very beautiful. It's like a mini-Michigan Ave.

Minneapolis looks vibrant and lively despite having many indoor malls and skybridges. Nice poetry!
