CANCÚN INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT

It's Mexico's second busiest airport, after Mexico City International Airport in Mexico City, but the biggest in Mexico and Latin America for International passengers. In 2010 Cancún airport handled 12,439,266 passengers, an 11.3% increase compared to 2009.

The airport has been expanding as it has become one of the most important international airports in the country. It has two operative runways that are 1,500m apart which allows them to be used simultaneously, and three commercial terminals.

Terminal 1 is used by charter airlines from North America, including domestic charter airlines. Terminal 2 is used by some international airlines, as all of the scheduled domestic airlines, and new Terminal 3 handles primarily international operations of airlines from North America and Europe.

The ACI says the airport is among the top five world-wide for airports that serve 5 to 15 million passengers annually. The Airports Council International (ACI) picked Mexico's Cancun International Airport (CUN) as the top airport in Latin America for the second year running. The ACI says the airport is among the top five world-wide for airports that serve 5 to 15 million passengers annually. The quality of the airport's many services sets it apart from other airports of the same size in the region.

“Aeropuertos Del Sureste,” the company known as ASUR, operates the award-winning Cancun International, along with 8 other top-ranked airports in the southeast of Mexico. The ACI credits ASUR’s success with their high quality standards. The company constantly raises the bar in the service and customer care that is provided for passengers. The passion to keep improving holds ASUR and their 9 airports at the front of the pack.

Jesus Almaguer, director of the Cancun CVB, says that “the Cancun CVB is extremely proud of ASUR’s ongoing quality, service, and excellence in maintaining our destination’s airport as one of the top airports to be internationally recognized.” He continued to highlight the airport’s importance as the “first impression” that visitors experience. “When visitors enter our destination, the service, hospitality, and professionalism they receive is as equally important as their experience within the destination, and we are glad our visitors have that top-notch experience from the moment they step foot in Cancun.”

The ACI will hold an award ceremony on April 7, 2011 in New Delhi, India. Cancun International will claim the honor during the Regional Assembly of the ACI-ASIA, led by Angela Gittens, the general director of the Airport Council International.

Cancun International Airport, coded as “CUN” on destination menus, had over 11 million passengers in 2009. In the high season, the airport averages 800,000 passengers each month. There are three terminals, including the MAIN terminal, which is used for scheduled domestic and international flights from major airlines such as American Airlines, AeroMexico, and Iberia. This building contains tourist information, duty-free shops, beauty parlors, food courts, bars, a video arcade, and more. The FBO terminal is used mainly for chartered flights and private planes.

Cancun - Paris-CDG: Leaves at 7:35 pm – Arrives the following day at 11:35 am

Aeroflot launches direct Moscow-Cancun flights

Russia’s biggest air-carrier, Aeroflot, has launched a direct service from Moscow to the famous resort Cancun, in the southeast of Mexico. The first Airbus-330 landed at Cancun airport earlier today.

According to the Aeroflot general representative in Latin America Evgeny Zherdev, the decision to make direct flights to Cancun has been prompted by Russian tourists’ keen interest in Mexico.

He also said that the number of flights to other Caribbean countries would also be increased for the winter season. For example, Aeroflot liners fly five times a week to Havana, Cuba, and three times per week to Punta Cana, the Dominican Republic.
