Obviously the wider road which is now oneway from PMG to Plamoodu. LA is less than the other.

I hate the road from plamoodu to PMG as it is narrow and lot of curves with old buildings on either side of the road. While looking to the PMG-Plamoodu road, we can even see the roads are widened with some modern shops and showrooms on both sides and almost a straight stretch with one curve at each junction.

The Karamana-Kiamanam stretch willl be around 2 kms long and as per the calculation Neeramankara is very much suitable for a Monorail station as is the exact midpoint of the above two junctions. Moreover the area hosts retail giants, 5-6 automobile showrooms (both cars and bikes), and a couple of educational institutions.

Kaimanam definitely needs one Monorail stop as it is one corridor starting point to the bypass as well as Kovalam which is just 8 kms away from the city centre

Exactly, he is the one who proposed BRTS for Trivandrum when GoK asked him to study the feasibility for metro inTrivandrum in 2005. The reason he found for that is strange- 'Trivandrum's trerrain is not suitable for metro'.

Why do you want to travel at 550 km/hr when you'll be having a stop every km or so? Though I respect him for what he's done, I clearly don't understand this statement of his.

Some of his deeds make us wonder whether he is an opportunist. Otherwise how he can do a ‘malakkam marichil’ ( U turn) regarding Monorail?. He was a staunch opponent till recently.

He is now scouting for consultancy projects everywhere. And it is good money, going up to crores. Who will not need that?

The preliminary feasibility study of a Metro for Trivandrum was done by L&T Ramboll, KINFRA being the nodal agency in 2000 or so. I had gone through that report back in 2001 when I was with KINFRA. The next Govt (UDF) entrusted Sreedharan to study again and he came up with the idea ‘not suitable.’

That's the right question and the exact answer, Sudheesh. And of course, preferably consulting contracts without tenders.

I don't mean to sound like a sycophant of Sreedharan but I feel one should not be so quick in demeaning the man who has contributed so much to the country. I am not saying we should preclude the possibility of your conclusion being right without looking at the evidence. But to emphatically describe him as an opportunist (by saying it is the "exact answer") does seem wrong.

The decision on the proposed monorail project for Thiruvananthapuram city will be taken today. The entire phase of the project is from Technocity near Pallippuram to Neyyattinkara. The project will be implemented in two phases with the first phase from Technocity to Thampanoor and the second phase from Thampanoor to Neyyattinkara. The major hurdle for the second phase is the approval from Railway authorities as it crosses the railway tracks at Thampanoor. The Monorail will end near Municipal Bus Station Neyyattinkara. First phase of the project is expected to be commissioned by 2016 and the second phase by 2018.

NATPAC submitted the feasibility report for Trivandrum Monorail

• The project is expected to start by next year and finish by 2018.
• Total Length of the project 41.8 Kms
• Project will be implemented in two Phases.1st Phase is from Technocity to Thampanoor(22.2 Kms) & 2nd Phase is from Thampanoor to Neyyattinkara (19.6 Kms)
• Total cost of the project is Rs.5100 Cr.(Rs.2775 Cr for Phase I & Rs.2324 Cr for 2nd Phase).
• The fare will be almost same as of LF A/C buses.
• AC LF buses is proposed for feeder services.
• There will be 19 stops in 1st Phase and 16 stops in 2nd Phase.
• The Monorail yard is proposed at Pallippuram.
